This story has been making the rounds on the internet today, so I thought I'd post it: http://happywaffle.livejournal.com/5890.html
Find My iPhone is probably the coolest feature of iPhone 3.0 and clearly make MobileMe more attractive. I wouldn't be surprised if Snow Leopard had a similar feature, using Core Location, for notebooks. Clearly it's probably not a good idea to do what this guy did, but it's pretty cool that it's even possible. It is, as he said, very Jack Bauer-ish. |

Mobile me does add a certain sense of security especially with the wipe feature, but the cost of replacing it is reason enough to check my pockets every 15 minutes. I also can't seem to pull up a location radius smaller that a few blocks which in the real world could mean anything if it keeps changing and moving.

Very cool story! It would perhaps make sense to be able to read the battery level over MobileMe too, so you can hit the wipe button before the battery goes completely dead.

And to enable this feature to work on iPhones. So if you're with a buddy with another iPhone, you can skip the whole "laptop and Sprint Wireless Card" business, and just do it all via small, handheld phone.
I'm sure it's coming. How could it not? Once this feature is tweaked by Apple to work on iPhones, all you have to do then is make sure you hang out with at least one iPhone-owning friend every time you go out for the evening. |

That would be sweet, find my phone already gives parents another tool to keep track of their kids having it on the phone would be so cool.
I can see it now "I TOLD YOU TO BE HOME BY 10:00!! This phone will be wiped in five minutes if you don't get home right away! |

LOL That's awesome.
No wait, that'd suck if it were me, but because it's not... that's awesome. |

I guess there could be slightly more nefarious uses for Find My iPhone. Interesting.
