Something really weird just happened which let me down. As I was trying to tell a friend about how good the MBPs are, the screen all of a sudden turned off. Then, after awhile it turned on after I pressed the ON button. Then another friend said check this out and turned off the lights. The lights on the keyboard did not even turn on anymore. Then I checked on preferences and saw the option was unchecked for some reason. After retrying again the lights turn on but veryh lightlty. Is there a way to make the lighting stronger as how it used to be.?

Also, I am starting to notice my MBP getting extremely hot, unlike before. It used to get hot but not this hot.

Did you recently apply the firmware update?

there is a light sensor in the left speaker I think. What happens when you cover it?

I did recently apply the firmware. Is that suppose to have caused that? Nothing happens if I cover any of the speakers.

This might be a stupid question.. but you turned the brightness for the keyboard all the way up right? And you still see it dim?

I am not sure about the new macbooks, but with my (older) powerbook I have a sensor under each speaker, and they both have to be covered for any effect. I assume to stop it from senselessly going dim and turning on the keyboard due to shadows.

As ironlung alludes to...

Fiddle with keys F9 and F10 when the lights should be on and tell us what happens....

No, I am asking if there is a way to turn up keyboard lighting higher? About the other comments, I will check on that tonight.

What I meant to say was if you realize that you can adjust the brightness of keyboard illumination by using F9 and F10, as scratt pointed out.

thanks a lot, the F10 solved the problem...for some weird reason the setting on my MBP changed by itself. Maybe after the firmware update or somthing.

Mine resets itsself to lowest possible illumination when waking up from sleep.
I think it's a power saving feature (not a bug).
