He has died at 82.
Without him, a certain film franchise we all know might not even exist. Reading about what he did, and the role his work played, in getting 20th Century Fox on board (after other studios passed on a young director's idea/vision), can't be overstated. I love looking at his work now, at 43, as much as I did as a young pup. Great stuff. He made a mark, no doubt. Tribute and slideshow at starwars.com. That final painting, of Yoda on Dagobah, is amazing. I've never seen it until today. It's beautiful... Last edited by psmith2.0 : 2012-03-04 at 21:21. |

Not only Star Wars, but lots of other projects. His official website, which you linked to, really highlighted how many different projects he's been attached to.
Really liked this little nugget (I've turned it into a link to the source, www.ralphmcquarrie.com): User formally known as Sh0eWax |

Sad news, to be sure.
But, 'scates, are you like the grim reaper's reporter? |

This is a huge, big, giant, stinking deal.
HUGE HUGE HUGE. The man changed the way a lot of us kids thought about illustration. I sometimes think of the first Star Wars trilogy solely via the images of Ralph McQuarrie's illustrations along with stuff by Joe Johnston and Nilo Rodis-Jamero. ... |
