Do you think there will be a firmware update really soon for the iPod Photo, for example?!

What are the main differences between nano and the Color?

The "color", or standard iPod nowadays has either a 20 or 60 gb hardrive in it, whereas the iPod Nano has either a 2 gb or 4 gb flash chip in it for storage. The iPod Nano is about the size of the model it replaced (the iPod Mini), but is a think as a pencil. The regular iPod is much larger in comparison. Both models have color screens, and can store photos.

You tell me
![]() iPod ![]() ![]() iPod nano ![]() ![]() iPod + nano + shuffle ![]() Cosmetically Size for starters, the nano is not quite as robust as the standard iPod either - and the nano has its headphone port on the bottom, next to the dock connector. Internally The nano is a flash based iPod available in capacities of 2GB and 4GB. The current HD based iPod models come with capacities of 20GB and 60GB. |

More than the folders, we need them to fix the smart playlist updater. It worked fine before but since the podcast update, it doesn't. I shouldn't have to sync to have my smart playlists update if I didn't have to in the past.

I certainly hope they release an iPod Updater for the 4G color iPods b/c it woud:
1. add the new nano functions (world clock, screen lock, etc.) 2. potentially add video function *PRAY* I mean, look at, there's nothing that would really prevent a 4G color iPod from displaying video. The A/V cable already displays slideshows with playlists on a TV. I understand if Apple doesn't want to cannibalize their sales right away, but if video is possible through a firmware update, they should definitely do it eventually. |

I can see the Nano features being added, but there is absolutely no way in the world that the 4G iPods will ever be able to play video through any function of Apple software. Cannibalize sales is right...
That's like a new car coming out that has a better engine in it and the car company saying that everyone who has the old car can come in and get the new engine installed for free. (Sorry for the car analogy, but they work so well ).Never, going, to, happen. If you want to play video on your iPod, buy a video iPod. Come waste your time with me Adapt, Improvise, Overcome |

I thought I remembered hearing something along the lines of 4G iPods having video capability that wasn't accessible yet...Or is that just not-so-wishful thinking?

Adding video functionality, if its not tied directly to hardware specs, is hardly requiring Apple to alter my 4G iPod. Just turn something 'on,' if in fact that really IS the case. I don't think its too much to ask for, but realistically I'm not going to hold my breath either. |

4G technically is able to play videos; you can see this using iPodLinux and PodZilla. It's not pretty, real-time, efficient or in any way usable, though.

I personally wouldn't say no to having my playlist folders work on my iPod. Does anyone know if the folders work on the new Nanos or Video iPods?

The iPod photo is supposedly able to play video at 30 frames per second. You do it by ripping a video to individual frames, selecting those frames for a slideshow, and making the interval 1/30th of a second. Some people also claim that you can sync the music to it, but it all seems like more trouble than it's worth. I bought my iPod to listen to music.
