I had this great plan... Buy a 20" iMac G5 to replace my current 19" monitor that I have connected to my PC. This way I have a Mac and a PC, WITH a better monitor. But, when I went to the Apple Store, I saw no monitor input plug on the back (VGA or DVI). At least none that I saw. Is it possible to use the iMac as a monitor for my PC and its built-in Mac? I guess the same problem would apply to using dual monitors with an iMac G5. Please let me know.. thank you!

Nope. Sorry.

The closest possibility would be to run a VNC client on the Mac, but that's not really the same.

That would *almost* be a smart marketing move for apple to make it a possibility and to encourage it "need a kick ass monitor? looking to try the mac out?"

the only problem is the next part of that question would be "well then spend a ton of money!"

oh well.

Dang, but I just read theres a mini-DVI monitor port on the bottom of the iMac if you take the panel off. Is that only for using dual monitors?

What about the software VPN that's on the market? Wouldn't there be some way to configure that to do what he's suggesting?

If you're running XP Pro, you could use terminal services. Turn on the remote desktop option on the PC and use the Microsoft RDC client to use it. Gaming would be out, of course, but it would be functional. I've done this in the past when I wanted to get that extra monitor off my desk.

If it's not red and showing substantial musculature, you're wearing it wrong.

Hmm, wouldn't that make things run extremely slow at low 256-color, though? And what if my internet goes down.. no PC?

How would the internet being up or down affect the LAN connection between two machines in the same place?

Oops, got my information confused... So would that work, then? What limitations would it give me?

not much, other than 3D stuff would be out. Not sure what you were planning to do, so that might be a deal breaker, might not.
