I am a college student, and my stuff is usually everyones stuff and I was wondering if there was anyway to lock my inbox to my mail. Or have mail request a password when I open it. Any suggestions? Thanks guys.

I don't think so. Besides, if you give others free-reign over your account, you have bigger things to worry about. It would take less than five seconds for someone to stroll into your Library folder and obliterate your mail and everything else. For that matter, they could just copy ~/Library/Mail to a thumb drive and walk away with al your goodies.
So, umm, why are you letting others use your main account? Don't you have any concerns about losing data or keeping things private (school documents, credit card numbers, etc)? This sounds like a perfect scenario for fast user switching. The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. Not everyone, but like ppl that come and go in my room. When parties are going and ppl play music from my sound sticks.

Even if it were possible to lock down Mail, it would be a useless option. It wouldn't actually lock anyone out from still accessing the e-mails. That's what user accounts are for!
If you create a guest account but want it to have access to your iTunes library, all you need to do is activate sharing in iTunes. |

I did the same thing back when I had roommates. Create a "music" account that requires no password. Lock the access to the dock and application, and then just give people access to iTunes and Firefox/Safari etc.
Worked really well for me. Google is your friend. Caveat Emptor - Latin for tough titty I tend to interpret things in the way that's most hilarious to me |

And it can be set up in a matter of five minutes. No hassle whatsoever.

I enabled itunes to share my music, however when i'm on my "music" account it has no songs, and it won't let me import songs from my other account. Why?

Turn Fast User Switching on if you haven't. Leave iTunes running. Switch user to music (don't log out. Switch). The full-screen cube animation should occur. Now, in your music account, iTunes -> Preferences -> Sharing -> Look for shared music. You should see it as a blue (shared) library. |

Oka, I figured it out, the music part that is. However when i use spotlight on my "music" account it pulls up things from the other account. For example if I type in a name....say Jon....it pulls up conversations i've had on ADIUM that have the word JON in it. How can I stop spotlight from looking into my other accounts files?
Can i make a short cut to switch accounts, like a hot zone? Thanks guys |
