Er... we do it in the US, too. Well, most of the US does, at least. All but the Chicagoland area of Indiana does NOT, for example (since Illinois does "spring forward" and "fall back", the commuters to Chicago that live in Indiana insists on following the time change while the rest of the state does not).

And as for the Glass Cube....when I saw the thread I thought that it was about an idea to bring back the Cube, with a glass case. Not a bad idea actually...you'd be able to see all the wheels spinning, the glow plugs glowing, and the little rodents running around.

FYI (since I live in Indianapolis), this is the last year that's true. The entire state will follow it next year. There was a horribly drawn out debate about it in the statehouse this year, but they finally voted to have everyone observe DST next year.

Good to hear! I always thought having two different times in the same state must have been needlessly confusing.

Wait... isn't there also an issue with the Gary area being in the Central Time Zone while the rest of the state is Eastern, or is that some kind of false recall my brain is doing right now? How will that be rectified - making the whole state Eastern Time and observing DST, or the other way around (all Central Time and observing DST)?

Techno aesthete Jobs personally designed the 32-foot-by-32-foot box that will mark the store’s entrance on the Fifth Avenue plaza (formerly home to a T.G.I.Friday’s). “Steve Jobs felt that he created the cube so he owned it,” says Apple broker Robert Futterman, noting that Macklowe wanted it to stay put. “At the eleventh hour, that was the biggest issue.” Macklowe had aggressively wooed Jobs, flying out to California twice and offering well below market rent of $1,000 per square foot for the 24,000-square-foot store set to open in the spring. Is it just me, or does anyone else think that's really weird? It would be pretty cool to have a giant 32x32 glass cube as a lawn ornament, though.

I had no idea Apple was opening a store on 5th Avenue. That's cool. That building is right across the street from the Plaza.
