Apple expected to release new product "Dashcode" for making widgets, unknown when.

Has javascript debugging (breakpoints), WYSIWYG editor, plus a heck of a lot more!

edit: Images removed at the request of the developers.

Oooh interesting...

looks like you could do straight HTML through the interface similar to Dreamweaver and other WYSIWYG html editors...
nice "find"...

Cool... Looks quite 'Xcodey'.

I wonder if it will be generally available or part of the ADC stuff...

Yeah, it does look a lot like Xcode. It'll probably be another part of the Dev Tools (in /Developer/Applications).

MWSF material, I suppose.

Nah, depending on how far along it is, it could be rolled into the next Xcode update.

I have a video here, it seems quite buggy. I would assume it's going to be MWSF.

I doubt it. From the looks of the screenshots, it is a dev tool to create dashboard widgits, hence the name "Dashcode". iWork is a pair productivity applications, not developer tools.

Did anyone notice its a complete replica of Wcode, just with added features and some changes?

Yes, and Wcode is (*gasp*) just a copy of Xcode with added features. Just a side note - I don't think it is fair to link to your own product Bryan.

Edit: Almost forgot - Welcome to Applenova!

With all fairness, this is not a replica of Wode, I understand you are probably annoyed, but it was going to happen sometime. This app has far more advanced features, Wcode does not have a WSYIWYG editor, nor a javascript debugger, built in preview.

Also, the only reason I came accross Dashcode was because I was making an app "Dashcode", and I wondered if anyone was using the name, so I googled it. So if apple wern't going to release this, I would of released something (but now I am probably just going to delete my project - can't compete with this).

Just a note, I am not 100% sure this is an Apple app, although it has all the trademarks, fills a missing gap, and was found on an employes iDisk. So keep in mind this might be a private app made by the developer, and if so they will be charging for it no doubt (and I would expect it to be $30+), but then again its highly unlikely this is a non-apple app.

And Bryan, my app had a preview feature similar to Dashcode, without the special effects - I am quite willing to give that to you (Message me).

From its name and its looks, it seems it will be part of the installed developer tools. So it's most likely not MWSF material. It looks cool, but this isn't the widget dev tool I was looking for. You can check out my dashcode blog post for my take on what a cool widget making app should be.

I have it on good authority now that those images of Dashboard were of another third-party application and are not from Apple.

Well, it turns out that Dashcode is an Apple application after all, and has been leaked onto one version of the Developer CDs included with some of the MBPs. More info at digg.

It seems like it is going to be a great tool and will make creating a widget fairly easy. I was just getting ready to try to make a random quote generating widget; however with the release of this on the horizon, I will wait a little while!

And chances are it is something that Apple will frown heavily upon being uploaded for distribution.

I wouldn't want to put it on my machine now, just because it's not even "official" yet. Some people are about to get into some very serious trouble, methinks.

Admins, can we get this link removed? It's probably not good for AN to be linking to this...

Apparently I call the cops when I see people litter.

Yes, but Dashcode isn't part of the Xcode Tools 2.3.

Yeah. I really don't see the problems with installing if it they "accidentally" released it. Google "dashcode" and you can find it a couple of places. Or so I have heard.
