I was just now able to get back onto the site, and I saw that there is no applenova icon:

Was that because of the DNS trouble, or did you do it on purpose?

It has been hit and miss for me too. I have seen it some days, haven't seen it others. Didn't ever really think too much of it though. Not a big deal I suppose.

Hit reload.

It was because when the servers moved, we lost practically everything because the idiots at the hosting company didn't notify us that it *was* moving. Fortunately, we had everything backed up. This file just slipped through the cracks.

The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. The only way to guarantee thoughtful, informative discussion is to write thoughtful, informative posts. AppleNova is not a real-time chat forum. You have time to compose messages and edit them before and after posting.

AppleNova is hosted by Skitzo Solutions, a hosting provider I formed with a few other people. The Skitzo servers are located in a larger datacenter in Houston, TX that houses thousands of servers.

Our server was being moved from a server in one datacenter to an entirely new piece of iron in a datacenter next door. Someone had made the mistake of unplugging and unracking the old iron before we gave the go ahead to do so, which is why if your DNS servers had not updated you would not have been hitting anything. We also found out that the backups restored to the new server were older than what was supposed to be restored. So we had the old iron placed back online for another few days and mirrored its files to the new iron.

It is with great regret that we say our farewells to Jack, who passed away on May 28th, 2005. Jack, you will be missed by all
