So I just saw someone using the MAIL application for the first time and I was amazed. It is so much more convinient to use MAIL rather then logg online and logg into your account and see messages on an ugly interface. However I am confused/lost on how to create or import my mail from my student account to the actual MAIL applicatioin. I em almost positive my edu mail account is IMAP. So does anyone know the settings or the how to too create my MAIL account. On the internet it says something like iplm3.appstate.edu, What is that iplm3? I get all the way to where MAIL says select or type and outgoing server. What goes there? Nothing seems to work. In addition for the incoming screen i just used the iplm3.appstate.edu thing, is that correct? Any help wo uld be appreciated.

http://www.support.appstate.edu/email.asp

Based on the information in the above link...

Incoming server should be imap.appstate.edu

If you're in a dorm on campus, then your outgoing server should be mail.appstate.edu

If you're not on campus, you will have to find out the address of your outgoing server from your ISP.

If I recall correctly, all of the schools in the UNC circuit (yes, ASU and NCSU too) started doing this about four years ago to limit spam abuse from infected Windows computers.

I am school right now and for some reason MAIL still won't send emails, it will recieve them but I can't send them. I am not really connected to the school's internet because, well, it sucks and its not wireless. So right now I am using some random default wireless network that I picked up in the dorm. ANYWAYS, I just want to know how I configure my MAIL account so I can SEND emails. Like I need the IP adress or something, I'm just not sure how to find that or what I should do...thanks

Be mindful of "random" hotspots since people have been arrested for that before. (war-driving I think?) As for Mail sending out...

With my ISP, even though I'm using another mail account not from my ISP (cox.net) I will have to make my outgoing SMTP smtp.east.cox.net. This prevents or minimizes the amount of spam out there. You might be in the same problem. The hotspot you're on might be roadrunner and need to change your outgoing mail to their SMTP setting when on that hotspot. Try connecting to your school net using their email setting and see if you can send.

I am getting real angry with not being able to use MAIL. I am a registered computer on campus. I have my

INCOMING= imap.appstate.edu

OutBox= mail.appstate.edu

EVERY time I try to type an email I get a message that say this:

Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your network settings.

Message from: Zachary Barbitta <zb73375@appstate.edu>

I try every other thing it has and it never works..... ANY HELP? I CAN'T STAND the schools internet and to send an email its a 10 step process. What em I doing wrong? THanks alot.

You may need to turn authentication ON in order to send mail through their SMTP server. Turn it on and put in your login information.

I had a similar problem with my uni account. Do you have authentication set to password?

Also are you sure that your username is correct?
