What is the original capacity of newest powerbook 15'' battery? According to System Profiler mine is now 2.649 Ah which seems to be extremely small. I don't know how and why could this happen but something is wrong with the battery - now it works for only about 90 minutes. What can I do before I go to the store and buy a new battery?

Check some thread about this same problem over in the Genius Bar?

There's a lot of good info over there on the same subject. You should find what you're looking for pretty quick.

Coconut battery will do what you want. It approximates the stats of what your battery should have been when new.

It is generally agreed upon that completely discharging li-ion batteries regularly is a bad thing. Just by the properties of li-ion completely discharging your battery will result in noticeable loss in maximum capacities. It is better to do partial discharges and recharge often. I usually try not to dip below 30% if I can help it.

I learned it the hard way as well with my last battery. It was at 3.25 mAh, but after dropping to 0% it dropped to 3.00 mAh. Each time I let it drop below 10% I love about 0.2 Ah of capacity. Even if I did it twice within a week period.

With my new battery I don't do it and it is still at 98% of what it was at new after a year.

That explains why my kids PB 12" battery recently failed. They run it out all the time (since they are too lazy to plug it in at night and log out and shut it down.) Brand new battery lasted less than a year.
