Ok, so we all know that Apple turns 30 on April Fools Day 2006. Steve even mentioned it in his keynote (at the very, very end, after all the thank yous, when a lot of people had logged off). I'd like a Rumors/Speculation thread here to discuss what might be coming on April First, if anything.

The problem with announcing new products on April 1st, especially if they are awe-inspiring, is that half the people who see the announcement won't believe it.
So I reckon: Nothing. I am not saying she is engaged in small-scale mining operations for precious metals, but I have never seen her associate with any gentlemen of African American origin who are suffering financial embarrassment. "...A smell of Petroleum prevails throughout..." |

Well, April first is a Saturday - it's more likely for something to come out on, say the 28th with 3-5 day availablility.
...and I'd really be interested in a 30th anniversary Mac. Edit: But we couldn't really call it the TAM though, could we? Hmmm... ![]() |

Surely we should declare it:
An Applenova April Aniversary Apple Gift Holiday Or AAAAAGH (Thought the H added a little something.) He brought it up because there so no Apple events till maybe after then.
Maybe they'll release the Mac Mini Media Centre or Mac Box Little My First Media Pod. Or maybe Steve will say they where going to come out with something realy cool but decided not to for various reasons, then come out with it anyway months later, thus making it an April fools joke. ![]() |

My money is on this option, an Apple ][ casing with a Core Duo motherboard inside. |

The touble is I don't think the Apple ][ would be comfortable to use by todays standards. But it would be cool and you could always plug in another keyboard I guess.
You know, if Apple are going to release this Mac Mini DVR with movie download service, it would be rather revolutionary, rock the world kind of thing. The 30th anaversary would be the perfect time to releas such a thing. |

I'd love a Thirtieth Anniversary Mac. Of course, it has to be an AIO. You know how the original TAM was impressive because it used an LCD display? This one should be impressive because of the sheer size of the display - I think it should (appropriately) use Apple's 30-inch display. It should look a lot like the 30-inch Cinema Display, only black. I'd love it. If the 30-inch display drops in price before then (to $1,999), than it's even possible that it could cost $3,000! Hey, it'd beat the original TAM's $7,500 price tag. cue the lights and dim the stars |

Guys, the April 1st will never be the "April Fools Day" again. From this year on, it's the APPLE FOOLS DAY
In a very positive sense, I mean. I think there will be an event on that day. Steve will introduce that media thingie and maybe new iBooks/MacBooks... Last edited by saschke : 2006-01-13 at 17:14. |

I think SJ mentioned the anniversary only to create buzz, like that in this thread. Now the pundits will be predicting something special which will in turn simply give Apple more exposure.
As for a special 30th anniversary product, I doubt we'll see one. The 20th anniversary Mac was an overpriced under-powered disappointment. While its LCD screen was somewhat "revolutionary" for the time, the outrageous price made it a joke. Apple didn't sell many. |

Apple loses if the media expects something and it doesn't show up, as irrational as the media's predictions may be. I mean, if the general consensus about Apple is that they failed to deliver something (whether or not something was actually planned), then it could hurt their image and stock confidence. Personally, I don't except a TAM, just a revamping of something (like iBooks) or a new iPod thing. |

I don't think it will be harmful to Apple for the Mac web to anticipate the anniversary and make a big deal of it. It's just more "press" for Apple, keeping their name in the news. Thus, I think that's why SJ mentioned it. |
