I guess you guys needes the computer NOW. I am hearing from people who have the intel iMac and they are not very happy. Don't get me wrong, the new products are great, but soft is not ready(other than apple soft, and reporst show that rosetta is good with office, but very slow with other applications)
Why not wait(if you can) for rev B, I'm sure that by that time most of the soft is going to be ready for intel.

vasili, thank you for your honest advice. but: don't you think, that the apple fanatics on this board (me included) jump on every snippet of information that is available on the internet? there are many more positive remarks about the iMac Core Duo / MacBook Pro out there than negative ones. most are even stating that rosetta runs most applications extremly well including photoshop, which is a very important one for most of us (note: i'm presuming this right now)...

i think these new intelmacs are great products even when they can't be fully appreciated just yet. i'm eagerly waiting for my MacBook Pro. it will provide me with a substantial boost in performance and user experience over my iBook G4.

thanks anyway

Well here's a minor update. Up until today my MacBook status just said "Estimated Shipped By Feb 7, 2006" but now a delivery date has been added so it also reads "Estimated Delivered By Feb 14".

Wow, maverick! Seems like you will be one of the first persons to get that thing! Mine says: "Estimated Shipped by 2/15, estimated delivery: 2/24" right now...

Yeah, color me jealous. If you do get it by the ship date, we expect -- nay, demand, a review.

Yeah I'll definitely keep you updated about whether it ships on time. If I am the first to get one then I'll post pics and comments the day it arrives.

I can hardly wait much longer though. Even it arrives on time - it's still three weeks away.

I ordered mine an hour after the keynote online. Ship date 2/15. Delivery 2/21. Here's hoping.

1.86 GHZ, 2 GB RAM, 100 GB 7200 RPM HD... the works. Can't wait to toss my G4 867Mhz Powerbook 12"

I'd do it now, before more tempting options are available.

I would, but I'm absolutely dependent on that thing right now. Gotta download lecture sheets, watch TV and stay connected to my friends in hamburg. Just hoping that Apple doesn't introduce new iBooks/MacBook before the end of February...

The Futureshop and Best Buy Canada websites say that the MacBook Pro is being released on the 3rd. I think that they're full of shit, but could there be any truth to this?

Note that FutureShop belongs to BestBuy (as of several years ago), so they'd have the same source of information.

I doubt they'll have it that early.

My 1.83 ghz with 7200 rpm hd and 1gb ram says ship by feb 24th, delivered by march 1st. However, I did get a sales rep on the phone that said despite of what it says online, most orders will ship out the first week of february, with a bunch more going out 2nd week. That's hopeful!!

i just finished writing a two page email to the VP of retail explaining my predicament and requesting my ship on the 24th order moved to ship on the 16th so i can recieve it before i move back to china.

there's not a lot that a well written letter to the right person can't get done.

i like the way i ended the letter:

"Apple knows what is it is like to be left without a acceptable solution to its B2B needs. For two years people waited for a 3 GHz G5 chip from IBM, but IBM didn't deliver. In the same way I hope Apple does not fail to provide me with a solution to get the MacBook Pro to me before I leave the United States."

i'll let you clowns know how it goes

I ordered one on the evening of the announcement (when I realised my G3 iBook just wasn't going to cut it anymore), and I have an expected ship by date of the 15th. I have no expected arrival date yet, though

Neil.

That would be nice! I don't have a delivered by date yet... could that be because I ordered from the Canadian store?

I work in research at a very large university, and have two MacBook Pro puters ordered. The order was placed on January 26th, and I have an estimated ship date of February 24th. I have asked for any way to have the order rushed (i.e. shipped sooner), and was told it was highly unlikely, but the person would see what they could do. Now considering that person I have been in contact with, is the Higher Ed. Sales Manager for Arizona, Neveda, and New Mexico, I am betting she knows exactly where things stand in regards to the MacBook Pro ship dates.

She said to expect the order to be shipped with a few days of the 24th (+ or -).

Just wanted to share what I know.

In the event specs effect shipping dates, I got two of the following:

MacBook Pro 1.86 GHz
2GB RAM
100GB Serial ATA Drive@7200rpm

I expect that, like every other Mac, CTO orders will ship a day or a couple of days later than the stock models.

one of the apple VPs i emailed forwarded my email to the person responsible and i got a reply from Executive Relations for Apple Asia Pacific......

i think my email has been CCed to five different Apple employees across the globe by now......

it's amazing what one well written email sent to the right person can do

2 years ago, i had a big problem with customer support/tech support at CompUSA. they had been dicking me around for 3 months and should have replaced my comp under the support plan i purchased. I sent an email to the CompUSA VP and mentioned the BBB..... within 12 hours i had a $600 gift certificate valid toward any new computer.... i used it to purchase my first mac...

granted this tim i am asking for a favor and not complaining.... but if you talk to the right person in the right way you can get things done

from the apple VP:

"Hi Andrew

I do not have responsibility for the on-line store and would not be
able to handle this exception.

I have forwarded your e-mail to Jennifer <last name removed> who may be able to
help you. She is the right person.

<name removed>"

from Apple Asia Pacific

Dear Andrew

I am writing to let you know that I have just received a copy of your e-mail detailing your MacBook Pro order (Web Order # <order number removed>) and it's current shipping schedule. As you reside in China your request also comes under Apple AsiaPac, and we are currently in communication with our US based colleagues in an attempt to find the best and quickest solution to your situation. At this point I am just touching base and will be in contact with early next week with a progress status update. Normally I would have given you a call, but due to the time differences involved here, I felt it inappropriate to call so late in the evening US time.

Feel free to contact me at your convenience.

Regards
