Hi all,

So I am having a problem with my iMac and burning regular CD-Rs. I am running 10.4.4 and have had this problem burning through the Finder, Toast 7, Backup and iTunes. I have also tried multiple types of blank media with no avail.

Each time the disk will burn (Im burning at 8X as the max burn usually doesnt work with cds because of burn errors) and it gets to the last third of the verification process when it craps out on me.

Now I have read the problems about the Matshita UJ-846 drives (which is what mine is) and am wondering if there is anything I can do before I call Apple? Burning works fine for blank DVD-Rs for the most part.

Any ideas?

You're burning different groups of files each time?

Although the verification fails, can you read the CD's in other computers when you're done?

What types/brands of CD-R's are you using? Have you tried Verbatim brand CD's?

Google is your friend.

It happens when I try burning disk images, iTunes playlists, directly from the finder and while trying to do a backup to CD with Backup.

Yes I can read the CDs when they are done (as long as it's just a verification error), but doesnt the failed verification mean that there was something wrong with the burn and that there is a possibility that part of the CD will be read wrong/has been written wrong?

Normally I wouldnt be too worried about it but since I need to backup things, I cant afford to have my backup CDs not work when the time comes. My whole school life revolves around my computer and the thought of losing the info on it is a scary thought at the very least.

I havent tried Verbatim blanks yet, but I have tried every other good name brand. I will definitely try them if you think it will be a possible solution to the problem.

Thanks for the tip alcimedes, the Verbatim CDs work.

It still seems a little odd that the drive would only work with a few select types of brands though. Are most blank CDs really that cheap?

If so, what brand of DVDs should I go for?

I found that annoying, when it happened the first time, my PC never had any problems to burn the cheapest disks.
Some weeks ago, I needed some files that I archived on a DVD (on my PC), and the disk was damaged. I can see the filestructure, can open folders, but can't copy files off. I archived, put the DVD on the shelf, and the first time I want to use it, it's f****d.

Since that time, I like that my powerbook is a little picky.

I use Imation disks, never had problems with them, and I get them here at more stores than verbatim.
