I'm trying to dial up through my bluetooth phone, the Sony Ericsson t637. However whenever I try doing this the powerbook cannot connect. The phone dials, but the powerbook has it immediately hang up. I have tried both the automatic option and manual but I have not been able to make this work.
I am getting the following error: ![]() Could this be a problem with my phone, service provider, what? Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks guys! User formally known as Sh0eWax |

Have you turned off the "wait for dial tone before dialing" option?

try turning off your phone and then back on again. if it doesnt work take screen shots of al the settings so we can better see the situation.

OK compared to my settings there are 2 minor differences don't know if it will have any effect. For Modem i am using Ericsson Infrared V110 (although i remember i used to use Ericsson Infrared). Also under PPP options i have Send PPP echo packets unticked.
I doubt that will help but when it doesnt try the following. First make sure you have GPRS. That way to check is you should have a blue bar over the signal bar. If the bluebar is full and you cant connect, try re-pairing your phone with your mac. smetimes when i use my mac at work with my phone, when i get back home i have to re-pair it with my mac there. if all the above doesnt work, post again and we will take it to the next step. portable: MacBook 2.4Ghz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD | personal: PowerMac G5 dual 2.3ghz, 6GB RAM, 6TB HD | work: MacBook Pro 2.5ghz, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD | car: Alpine iDA-W407 with black iPod 80GB | pocket: iPhone 3GS with Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro's |

oh sorry, just noticed something. You are trying to "dial up" not use GPRS. I think there was a setting on your phone you had to do to make it work like a modem. let me experiment with my phone (i got T630) and will get back to you. please hold

ok dude i actually tried to dial up to my dial up isp using my phone and got the same error you did. When i get back home will check and see what settings i ahve there since i know i have done this recently.
What i would do in your site is call you gsm operator and ask them if you have "Data" active on your phone. When i was in Lebanon i had to pay extra every month to activate "Data" which would allow me to use my phone as a modem and dial up to an ISP. portable: MacBook 2.4Ghz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD | personal: PowerMac G5 dual 2.3ghz, 6GB RAM, 6TB HD | work: MacBook Pro 2.5ghz, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD | car: Alpine iDA-W407 with black iPod 80GB | pocket: iPhone 3GS with Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro's |

Hmm, I thought that dialing up would just use up my minutes, not have any extra costs. If I'm understanding correctly using GPRS is the data plan I want? Or maybe I'm confused, I think I will call the ISP as you suggested.

actually you have 2 options
1) Data plan which allows you to connect to your normal ISP and Wap. Connection speed is 9.6kb 2) GPRS plan which allows you to have instant on internet (no dialing up really). Connection speed is 56kb portable: MacBook 2.4Ghz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD | personal: PowerMac G5 dual 2.3ghz, 6GB RAM, 6TB HD | work: MacBook Pro 2.5ghz, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD | car: Alpine iDA-W407 with black iPod 80GB | pocket: iPhone 3GS with Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro's |

Hrmmm, I have to call my ISP for sure now. I don't have either, and I'm wondering how much each costs. Maybe this isn't a good idea lol.

well it varies from country to country. Here in Kuwait its 10$ a month for 5MB worth of GPRS or 30$ a month for unlimited.
Data is $3 one time fee to setup and u pay per minute like a normal phone conversation. in Lebanon Data was 20$ a month and you also pay per minute. Lebanon though has the highest prices in the world. portable: MacBook 2.4Ghz, 2GB RAM, 250GB HD | personal: PowerMac G5 dual 2.3ghz, 6GB RAM, 6TB HD | work: MacBook Pro 2.5ghz, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD | car: Alpine iDA-W407 with black iPod 80GB | pocket: iPhone 3GS with Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro's |
