Hi There,
I've got a Powerbook G4, last rev. before the Intel series, and I've had an Airport for about 6 months. Both have always worked flawlessly. Two nights ago, I tried to open Safari, and the www.apple.com (home page) address went into the address field, however the screen remained white. No web pages worked. I checked Airport> Solid green light. So I unplugged both Airport and Modem, overnight. Next day nothing. However the Laptop is showing that its recieving a strong signal from my Airport. Under "Network Diagnostics" it displays green lights for Airport, ISP etc...but Internet is Red. I undid the airport, and it asked if i wanted to join some other network, so I tried. (Probably my neighbors) The Apple site loaded up, but then asked me for a password. Then I contacted my ISP, and they reset my modem, I plugged in the Ethernet line, and I had Internet. So I retried my Airport....Solid Green light, Laptop Airport signal says its strong, alas Safari says "I can't see the webpage because I'm not connected to the Internet." Any thoughts on what may have gone wrong/ how I might get it to work again? Thanks alot. |

Did you inadvertently change your TCP/IP settings? In System Preferences, click on Network. Double click on "airport" and then on TCP/IP. It should say "Using DHCP" for "configure IPv4".
If that doesn't work, open up Airport Admin Utility and double click on your base station. In there, it should say what your IP address is. If the base station has an IP address, try connecting the powerbook directly to the base station using an ethernet cable. You should most definitely get connected then. If you don't, the problem is with one of the settings on your computer. |

I checked out the settings and they were as you suspected they would be. I figured they would be as I had never changed anything. The ethernet line straight into the powerbook works perfectly. Is this a precursor to my Airport calling it quits? Its a solid green light, and the laptop picks up a strong signal > Still no Internet...Seems quite strange.

It may be possible that somehow the tcp/ip setting got changed; someone thought your airport was a toy and pushed the reset button or whatever.
Take a look and see if they all make sense together... I don't think it's a precursor to a death, though. |

When you go into the Airport Admin Utility, what does it say?
Can you post screenshots of the network preference pane settings? Or you can email them to me torifile at mac dot com. Also you can email me screenies of your airport admin screens too. Something's not quite right somewhere but it's easier to look at the settings than troubleshoot blind. |
