I was talking to one of the reps of MacMall based on this page:
MacMall MacBook offerings.

Some of the 15.4" MacBook Pro's are $100 more expensive and have a ... 1680 x 1050 resolution.

This could be a typo (4 times ....) or be new model.

The rep stated that these models refer to the 2nd generation of MacBook Pro's and they will be available next week (5/24) for shipping ...

Can _anyone_ confirm this?
Or even know what the "advantage" is over the old model (obviously there are some issues with the current 15.4" models) ...

I don't know about that... but they have added an option for glossy screens with the macbook pro.

It seems to be a mistake by MacMall, only the 17" models have the 1,65k-resolution.

The only difference the "new" model has according to Apple themselves is a speedbumped CPU and an option for a glossy screen finish.

A black hole is where god divided by zero.

You'll notice that the 15.4" models with a 1680x1050 resolution also have FireWire 800. Obviously typos.

The 2nd gen models the rep is talking about are just the newly updated MBPs that came out the same day as the MacBook.

So it goes.

They also "goofed" on the Firewire 800... they're listing one port on the 15.4" models. And they have a 256MB X1600 in the 2GHz one, too.

Doesn't anyone there (and other vendors) proof this type of stuff before they post it online for the world to see? How tough could it be?

We know Apple themselves may struggle with some "posting stuff online that they shouldn't" issues, but still...at least when they suffer a bout of premature specification, they actually list stuff CORRECTLY.

Actually, they're right on the 256MB X1600 front

This is a typo. I have never really trusted those big computer stores to be extremely thorough. They've never really come across as being that credible... seeing as how they advertise things like PowerMacs as "Starting at $1999! Up to QUAD 2.5 GHz!!!"

Anyway, I'm locking this. Not really worth discussing.
