OK, so now that Im gonna have a lot of time on my hands sitting around, Im thinking about buying a PSP or a DS Lite. I dunno which way to go. I love more games on the DS Lite and I love the look of it, but the PSP also has some nice games, can play movies, and can surf the web, not to mention emulate nes, sega, ect. (If I could ever figure out to do that...
).Which of the 2 would yall get???? Hell, Ill add a pole while im at it for good measure. Please leave some advice/opinions/whatnots while youre at it... Die young and save yourself.... @yontsey |

The only great thing about the PSP is GTA:LCS. The great thing about DS Lite is everything else.

I remember hearing about a browser for DS. Is that out yet?

The Opera Browser for the DS lite is still in development. I could be wrong, it may be out in Japan, but not stateside yet. But it is coming.
I may be biased, as I own a DS Lite, and my wife has an original DS. The games absolutely rock, and it *should* have awesome connectivity with the Wii if that is your thing. |

Ok, lemme say this, can you guys recommend some games for both systems and then I will check them out and go from there.
Also, is Zelda out or gonna come out on DS? If I do go with a PSP, can someone help me out on "downgrading" the firm wear for putting some emulators on it? Die young and save yourself.... @yontsey |

PSP: um...Lumines? Maybe Loco Roco if you're into that...
I dunno, the PSP basically has PS2 ports with sub-par graphics. Nothing original so far, except for LocoRoco. DS Lite: Castlevania, Trauma Center, Phoenix Wright, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Nintendogs if you want a puppy raising simulator, Brain Age, Kirby Canvas Curse, New Super Mario Bros., Megaman ZX. FF Tactics and Lunar Knights are coming out in Japan soon, for sure gonna be here by next year. FF3 is coming soon, as is Zelda. The Opera browser is out in Japan, dunno when it's coming here. |

Well, I get $130 in BestBuy gift cards for buying my TV so maybe Ill take that and use it for either a white or onyx DS Lite and get a couple games. Ill prolly get New Super Mario, Mario Kart, maybe Mega Man, and Zelda if/when its out.
Well have to play some online against each other. Ill have to go do some hands on research. I just wish Opera had that browser ready because that would make things 100x's easier. I dunno why, but that little browser is really a selling point for me. Die young and save yourself.... @yontsey |

Also, the DS Lite can play all GameBoy Advance games (though it is no longer backwards compatible with the original GameBoy or GameBoy Color).
The DS Lite is cheaper. Oh, and PSP movies are essentially dead. At least UMD movies. There's a big homebrew market for the PSP, but Sony is intent on killing it (of course). Sony enjoys taking something fun and nice and mashing it into the ground. Trying to kill off the homebrew market also greatly devalues the PSP, but it's necessary because the company is more of a control freak than Apple. UMD movies are completely and totally dead because they cost $10 more than standard DVDs, they have fewer special features (UMDs have far less space than DVDs), and (surprise!) you can only watch them on the PSP's small screen. Screw the PSP. It had potential, but it's crappy and overpriced compared to the DS Lite. |

i could rent movies from the online movie/videogame service i go through so i would never buy a UMD.

I have a DS fat which I consider to be the best money I have spent on entertainment this year. I had a psp which I considered the worst money I spent on entertainment last year.
New SMB and Brain Age are awesome for the DS. I tend to carry one of those around with SMB 3 in the GBA slot. Tony Hawk Underground 2 for the psp makes one of my favorite sports games unplayable. After trying about five different games I gave my psp to my cousin. I tried to get into using my PSP as a PMP, but I feel it is too big. The PSP is really remarkable looking but I think that made me too cautious with it. I found myself protecting it like I would my watch. If you want mobile Madden skip the DS as I feel it was a complete waste of money but I really like the DS as whole. |

It will be so nice to go ...um... to mcdonalds and have nintendo wifi internet access... ![]() One draw about the nintendo wifi, you can only have 3 profiles at a time, so I can set it up for my house, my mom's house and mcdonalds(I never go there but they offer free nintendo wifi access), and then if I went somewhere else I'd have to delete one and add a new one before I could get to the gaming. It's typically painless to add a new profile since it auto-detects availability and compatibility, but still it is a couple of extra buttons to press. |

A couple of weeks ago I had a little nerd battle with a friend of mine who owns a PSP and used to own a DS. Vs. me and my friend who both own DS lites.
It played out like this. them: "but the PSP can do so much, I can browse the net, I can play virtually any game through emulation, last week... I even installed linux" us: "wheeee hahaha I'm going to get you-OH YOU PIECE OF!... whoa! good move! hahahaha, that was great! play again?" It was a little bit like that spoof apple ad with Wii vs. PS3 actually. |

I am so confused about this McDonalds free wifi thing. Can I just walk in and play with my DS downloading demos and such even if their food makes me ill (no this isn't hyperbole) and have no intent on handing over a dime?

I mean, yes. you can sit outside I'm sure, I'd imagine they'd probably ask you to buy something or leave (some sort of no loitering rules) but they can't really do anything to you, and you can always just buy a soda and fill the cup with water or something. I dunno, try spending all day in mcdonald's playing tetris, see what happens.

A friend of mine bought the DS and says it's worth it just for the japanese dictionary software he's running. He can draw a kanji and the thing spits out the definition; there is an extensive set of native level language tests, etc. His only game so far was Ooendan, which was a real blast to play. The console fits in jacket pocket without bulging.
I have seen plenty of people with PSP's, and have not been impressed by the hardware or the software. I keep a list of interesting game titles I'm interested in playing, sorted per platform. There are only two PSP titles on the list vs. about eight DS titles. |

I had a DS "fat" (funny) that I sold to hiltond so that I could buy the DS Lite. Totally worth it. Hell, my WIFE even likes to play the DS. Screw the stupid stuff - it's a game system. Don't be wowed by the pointless stuff.

According to IGN, Zelda will be out "Q1 2007". So no solid release date yet, but it is coming somewhat soon. I am really looking forward to it, as I loved Wind Waker. Actually I still need to beat it. *Goes and fires up the old Gamecube*
And yeah torifile, the DS is one of the few gadgets I have my wife likes. That's why I had to buy her one. I made the mistake of getting hers for her right after I bought the New Super Mario Bros. She snatched it away, and just finished getting everything in the game. I am on world 3. ![]() |

Like with every other system so far, it's all about the games and how well they play.
Same ol' stuff with the PSP, or some genuinely new ideas with the DS. Your pick. |

I think the PSP tried to do too much. I was drawn in by the seemingly impressive feature set. Unfortunately it's so restrictive and painful to work with that it just sits on my freezer at home. I posted in multiple places trying to sell the unit (including here in the bazaar) and no one bought it, even though it only has firmware v1.52 + v2.0 EBOOT.PBP file which can be hacked for homebrew stuff.
I'll probably end up trading it in for store credit to pick up Gears of War and Rainbow 6:Las Vegas. |

DS Lite is the one to get.
Why? Because it has more and better games. (New super mario bros, Wario Ware, Brain Age, Final Fantasy 3 remake) PSP does not have many good games. |

This really isn't even a contest. DS.
I'm getting a PSP eventually, too, but I'm a huge gamer - so to me, it's worth $200 to be able to play obscure games like Jeanne d'Arc, HOT PXL, LocoRoco, and Work Time Fun. But if you can only get one (or are trying to decide which one to get first), the answer is simple. DS. It's cheaper and has more great games than I'll ever be able to play. With its landslide of AAA releases this fall, I predict it will become my favorite system of all time by the end of the year. cue the lights and dim the stars |

Since none of us has played the Wii it would be hard to say. It might be a while before you can just walk into Best Buy and get a Wii.

DS Lite.

I had a regular DS and now I've got a Lite. The Lite is substantially thinner. In some ways, I prefer the form of the regular DS - the lite is kinda hard to hold. I like the retro look of the regular DS too. If it had the Lite's screen, I'd have one instead of the Lite.

As far as the DS Lite vs. PSP goes, get the DS Lite. I had a PSP for a while, but I sold it for my XBox 360 since there were almost no good games for the PSP. I had 5 or 6 games, but the only really great game in the bunch was GTA: Vice City Stories. In fact, that and Liberty City Stories are still the only games for the platform I'd be interested in playing. |
