AHH! My iMac has a nasty red stuck pixel. I've been runing the stuck pixel removal app all night, it's still there in the morning.

To those who have stuck pixel, how long did it take to disappear? What else I can do besides letting the removal app flashing the screen?

Not to be a total downer, but you might have a dead pixel. Happens to the best of us.

My Samsung has a white one, its kind of a pain in the ass.

Furthermore, most LCD manufacturers wont take a screen back unless it has a certain number of dead pixels. For Samsung, the magic number is 8. I don't know what it is for Apple, but you should check it out.

If it's red, it's stuck. If it's white, it's stuck. Dead pixels are black because there's no light. There are some stuck pixels that might as well be dead because they never go away, but technically if they're a color other than black, they're still alive.

Usually if it's not too obvious, I'll just ignore it. But this stuck pixel is right in the middle, and very obvious when playing movies. I gotta get rid of it.

I tried the rubbing the screen suggestion mentioned in wikipedia several times, it didn't work. What else I can do besides letting the software flashing the screen?

Ah really? So red means stuck? In that case, I need to use that tool on my 19 incher as its been there for a while, and I presumed it was dead! Thanks.

So how does one go about unsticking a pixel?

If you're lucky gently massaging the area will unstick it. Or using that software program. But I've got 2 red ones stuck on my MacBook's display (right at the bottom of the menu bar) that I couldn't get out, so I think they're just permanent. I don't care that much since it doesn't get in my way and all I do is write and surf the web on that computer. Still stinks but I deal.

We had a bunch of both dead and "live" pixels (white) on our plasma for a while. They took it away and installed some sort of "buffer" and they went away...

Some sort of buffer? Mayber they were using just flashing the screen with some DVDs. That's what I'm doing now, hope it will go away.

I have a purple stuck pixel on the top of my MacBook screen. It's on the white menu bar, which A) makes it really noticable but B) at least it doesn't really matter that it's there. A and B alternate depending on how optimistic or pessimistic I'm feeling.

What was that stuck pixel app like?

For PB, it is 3, at least this is what the apple store told me when I took my PB (before I screwed it up) to repair the screen because I had 2 crappy pixels. Apple support say that there is an acceptable limit but doesn't mention the range for each display size, but it is mentioned in AppleInsider.

MacBook with Super Glue...seriously though

Man that is tough. The entire week i waited for my new iMac i was only worried about stuck pixels. Thankfully i don't have any. Have you called up Apple? Maybe if you say some other stuff is wrong they'll just take the whole thing back.

When I bought my MBP, before I opened the box, I called and ask apple if I have a bad pixel on my screen would I be able to return it as it is not even a day old. They said, NO, I can either return the computer before I open the box or if there are more than the 'acceptable range' of bad pixels. Otherwise I will have to keep it. That's JUST CHEAP. Comon it is not even friggin' day old. But I didn't have any dead pixels, phew.

Think of it like buying a car. As soon as you drive if off the dealership lot, it's value to the dealer plummets. Remember: once opened, Apple won't resell it for the same price. So, it's taking a big loss by replacing your system (by both reselling at a lower price and having to go through the restocking process).

I'm not saying I agree with the policy, but I can understand it.

Isn't there a 24 hour period where you can return the computer at full cost?

Maybe that's just a state law here, but if you open the computer and discover a dead pixel, they have to take it back when you return it, regardless of the reason why.

I believe you are subject to the 15% restocking fee, unfortunately.

In Europe, that's valid only if you order it on-line as you can blame the delivery screwed it up. Otherwise no.

Brad I know what you mean. But still, its not even a day old. If they don't take it in, at least they should replace the friggin' display. I think there should be some kind of a policy. May be I am still pissed at the way that guy explained me the policy.
