I'm considering buying a 20" iMac Core 2 Duo and was wondering if there are any reported issues with this machine? Heat, noise etc.

Everything I've heard has been positive. I try to read as much as I can about Apple's new machines, both from the press and from users, and I haven't heard any real complaints. From everything I've read, it runs extremely cool, and damn near silently.

I've had the 20" iMac C2D for a little under a month now, and it's delightful. It's very quiet (the only time I notice the noise at all is when it first spins up from sleep mode), and it runs very cool. I feel just a little bit of warmth when I put my hand right up to the vent on the back. The display is big and bright and no stuck pixels.

I got the stock model right out of the Apple Store, with the intention of upgrading the RAM if I needed to, and so far, I've been totally satisfied with the stock model. The only time I've wished I had more RAM is when I'm running Parallels, which ran slow-as-molasses for me with only the 1GB of RAM. (I was running Vista RC2, though; maybe XP runs better.)

The C2D is vastly cooler and quieter than the G5.

You should have no issues with this machine.

Youve got a 17inch model. Problems are often model specific.

Intel-based iMacs, Core Duo or Core 2 Duo, seem relatively problem-free.

Yes, as a non-iMac-owning neutral I've not heard of any problems and I had a chat with the Mac guy in computing and he's had no Intel iMac failures (unlike the G5 iMac!).

My iMac is really, really quiet. However, it does generate a bit of warmth - not sure if this normal since I've never owned a mac before. The discs are pretty warm to the touch when they are ejected. Unless this is quite unusual it's something that barely registers importance wise....just the fact that it's so quiet - which is important when you're working with music/audio etc.

That happens on my iMac G4, so I assume that happens with all iMacs? It's never really affected any of my discs. Then again, my SuperDrive is a little broken.

Helvetica is my bitch.

I had a Rev B iMac 2.0 20" previously only had it over a year thought that was quiet..

Now got a 24" iMac C2D 2.33 256MB GFX and I can hardly hear it - honestly, mine is quiet as a mouse, yeah a whirr up when waking, but great.

I have noticed the speakers sound louder and better, the screen is amazing, bright, crisp, I cannot believe a year ago I tippled over to the Mac world, and don't look back. The speed is great, Parallels runs a lot better. Firewire on my external drive 800 is great, a lot faster.

I miss the 2 x firewire 400 but the speed makes up for it...

Get one, get the 24" you won't regret it!

My 24" backlight makes a humming sound that is noticeably louder when the screen dims. It's quite irritating.
