I just pulled my MacBook out of my bag to do some work before my next class, and when I plugged it in, I noticed something strange. The battery charge meter showed no battery. When I clicked the pull-down menu, it said "No battery available."
I checked immediately and the battery was plugged in and had about 25% charge. I unplugged the MagSafe connector, and it immediately switched to battery power and started calculating the time remaining. I plugged the MagSafe back in, and it works fine now. Should I be worried? Mine did that the other day too. Same exact situation. I figured it was not a problem though because when I unplugged it, it showed battery just like yours did.

Anybody have an idea of what caused this or if this should be a cause for concern?

No idea what causes it, but I've had the same behavior on my MacBook.

I also had the same problem and I needed to get a new battery.
No hassles, they tested the battery at the store, took the battery and sent me a new one. |

Best case scenario - you can convince them over the phone that you need a new battery, and they send you one. Worst case scenario - you send them the whole machine and everything gets done by DHL, instead of you having to drive 2.5 hrs. |

I have the same issue. Battery no good. I ran through the list of things to try, and nothing helped. I also took my battery out and inserted into a friend's Macbook. His Macbook also didn't recognize the battery as being connected. When I called Applecare (from work) and explained everything I had tried (including trying it in a friend's Macbook), she told me that it wasn't good enough and she wanted to run through the same list of things to try again. Huh? So, after explaining that I didn't have my computer with me (as I am forced to use a PC at work), she told me that she couldn't help me and that I would have to call back when I was at my computer. So, I think instead I shall just take a ride to my local Apple store after work tomorrow.
