Hi everybody!

All of a sudden, my MBP 1.83 CoreDuo 15" wont connect to my wireless network. The airport icon on the top says its connected, but it wont pull an IP address from my Linksys standard WRT54G router. I reset the router, took off MAC Adds filtering, took off all encryption, but nothing at all.

At this point, some would say, check your hardware. I thought that, but then I tried booting via bootcamp into XP and the network connects with full signal strength under Windows XP.

At this point, you may say, the OSX installation may have something fishy with it.

I thought this as well, but my thoughts were invalidated when the system passed all permission and disk checks. What really killed that idea is that my laptop connects to my parent's wireless network just fine under OSX.

Basically, the problem is I cannot connect to my home's wireless (or wired for that matter) network while running OSX; it only connects to my home network under XP. It works in every other combination of OSes and networks possible.

any ideas anyone?

have you tried setting DHCP with manual address within the range that the DHCP server puts out.... see if you can connect that way.

make sure PPPoE is not checked

Have you tried turning off airport and then turning back on? I've got this exact problem with my iMac Core Duo. XP is fine, OS X is not. Gotta turn it off and then back on. Do you get the "None of your trusted networks can be found. Do you want to connect to [your wireless network]?" dialog when you reboot in OS X? I do. Every time. It's damned annoying.

If it's not red and showing substantial musculature, you're wearing it wrong.

torifile,

have you tried removing all your trusted wireless networks and adding them back in again? re-ordering the ones you have?

tried creating a new location with the exact same settings and see if that solves the problem?

I have removed all the networks but I haven't tried any of the rest of the solutions. I'll try them and see how they go. Thanks.

torifile, do you get the same problem whether you have "automatic" or "Preferred Networks" selected?

awesome. I'll try out those two suggestions. If they dont work, I think it may just be an erase-and-install situation

honestly if the plist thing doesn't fix it, it's got to be some funky bug that i would try calling apple about.....

that's just about everything i can think of.... does an ethernet connection work fine from OS X? have you tried a USB 802.11 card?

Look for a firmware update for your wireless router. There's a known problem with linksys routers and MacBooks/MacBook Pros.
