I recently started to play WoW and was just wondering what everyone's opinion is on the character classes available. I'm more of a damagewhore, but I also want a character that can survive on their own... I read somewhere that mages are big damage dealers but have a hard time going out and fighting on their own... Basically that they need backup like healers or tanks. Is there a class that is both viable in group play and when going solo? I started a warlock because I think that character class is good for what I'm looking for. What do you guys think?

I haven't got a Druid character but my friend swears by his.

Essentially by shapeshifting, you get to be a Tank, a Rogue, have a Water form for those pesky underwater quests and have your Natural form for healing and other damage.

He never plays in groups and has got to lvl 60 really easily.

Yeah. Druid was going to be my second choice... but how long did it take him to get to 60?

Any more opinions people?

I'm currently a level 13 nerd who will die cold and alone. Or in a pile of my own excrement.

To be honest, you can adventure solo with each class - some are just faster than others. If a class has low armour, like the mage for example, then there's usually a way to kill stuff without taking damage. For example, mages can freeze a monster in place before they get close enough to hit you then you can fire big spells at them - of course there's a risk that you will break the freezing spell and they will come and smash you around. Another example is priests - they also have very low armour so it's a risk getting in to hand to hand, but you can have some spells that cause the opponent to run around whilst you fire your damaging spells at them, so they can't hit you. Hunters and Warlocks have pets that can keep the monsters occupied whilst you spell them.

Druids are great (I have one), but it can take a while to get your head around them. But the great part is that they are so versatile, they can do several different roles in a group as well as work very effectively solo.

Hope that helps

As of the last vBulletin upgrade, sigs only appear on posts longer than a certain length.

I have a 65 Druid.

Druids are a very difficult class to master, as you must learn how to use all of your skills wisely. However, they're rewarding.

Send me a PM here or even a tell to my character on Duskwood, tarpalantir, if you have questions about the Druid class. I'd be glad to welcome another to our ranks, as we used to be horribly underpowered, and now finally we're balanced.

E: For damage+survivability, you'll want either a warlock or rogue. Both can run away easily and can do massive amounts of damage. But other classes give other benefits, too, as a Mage can polymorph targets to make them unable to attack, and warriors can tank, and Hunters can get away really easily and basically kill ANYTHING.

Rogues are the first thing to get one-shot killed in PvE raiding due to AoEs and snap aggro.

Warlocks the class he's looking for because while they don't have a way to run away from a fight, they rarely need to.

I was talkin' about solo survivability. And deathcoil/fear/howl of terror/seduce/sacc VW/just kill the damn thing much? Warlocks can get away in PvP and PvE pretty easily. Druids are the best, though. Roots and travel form > *
