Hello everyone.

I just wanted to start by saying that the MacBook Pro I purchased about two weeks ago is one of the best investments I've ever made. I love OS X and can't believe I didn't make the switch sooner.

Anyhow, my question pertains to removing my real name from iChat/Adium. While I don't have a problem with most of my AIM contacts knowing my real name, there are a few on there that have no need to know my name. I'm aware that the name is tied to the OS X user profile, but I just want to remove it from Adium/iChat.

Thanks!

There is a space for a nickname that will show up instead of a screen name, but I don't think is uses your OS X user profile, at least on my machine. It may use your address book to match some users so try and disable that in the preferences.

^^ One more quality post from the desk of Ebby. ^^

In Adium, under Advanced in the preferences, there is an Address Book option that lets you turn on and off the connection to names in Address Book. I assume turning that off would work for Adium.

90% of statistics can be made to say anything 50% of the time.

FYI, iChat and Adium do not send that information. Other users see you as your AIM handle, not as the full username you have entered locally on your system.

Yeah, they won't see your real name, just your screen name. That's just showing you that your account is currently active.

Ah, this is great to know. Thanks to both of you!
