Alright, I have a folder full of blank looking files all with the names "nep-rene-xvid.r01" through like "nep-rene-xvid.r46".

It is a DVD file I think, my friend gave it to me, but I can't figure out how to play it. I've installed Divx player, installed a Xvid plugin for Quicktime, but nothing works. I can't get the files to become movie files.

Do I just need to burn these files to a DVD for them to work? It is pretty confusing.

Please help!

Those aren't DVD files. That's a compressed .rar folder. You need to download stuffit to uncompress it.

I have stuffit, what do I do to "unstuff" them?

He means download The Unarchiver. Stuffit needs to die a fiery death.

Then, open the r00 file.

If you have stuffit installed it should recognize them as .rar

Why? I've never had a problem with it.

And yes, this is clearly a pirated movie.

I like The Unarchiver, but it's not always successful at RAR extraction. I've had more success with the command-line unrar utility, especially for encrypted archives.

It's freaky how fast you found the title!

To be perfectly fair there is no place in my town to rent or buy this movie, so I was out of luck. Believe me I'd much rather pay $2 then to struggle through this crap.

Good for you.

Stuffit is a great example of an ancient suite of applications that were once good and are now only struggling along because of the market they created long before. I can't speak for its other products because I haven't used their current versions, but Expander is a slow, unresponsive kludge of an application. It can only process one file at a time and most of the time it refuses input while processing. I only keep it around for the dinosaur SIT files I manage to find from time to time.

And this thread is closed with a stern warning to World Leader Pretend: do this again and you get temporarily banned. You should know our policies on piracy by now.
