hey! anyone knows if 10.5 has or will have this crucial feature that's been missing so far? week numbers are used widely in europe for business planning, and not having it in a calendar makes the calendar unusable. will they add it? regards -C

What do you mean by "week numbers"? I'm guessing that you'd mean that this week would be called "week 34" or something?

Those who know aren't allowed to say, unless it's already been leaked by someone else.

yeah week 1 to 52. that's how we organize in europe often. "meet me friday week 32" for example. so it's very important, even if I actually think its a stupid datesystem.. but its there since long.

chucker: its's one thign to leak a picture and another to leak info about a simple feature coming or not. or maybe someone has seen it in 10.5 builds?? someone might be able to check the preferences in ical for 10.5 to see if it's there as an option?

regards & thx -C

Now you're actively advocating that people break their NDAs.

Until that last comment chucker, I thought you meant he couldn't say whether or not Europe used weeks 1-52 as how they discuss schedules.

CHEETAH - This is what you need. I believe that the unregistered version even has the week numbers.

No, what Cheetah (and me) wants is iCal to show week numbers at the top of the window in WEEK view, and perhaps in the top left of the first day of the week in MONTH view.

Currently, if you fiddle around with you international preferences and put the week number in the FULL date view, iCal will show that in DAY view and it will come up in WEEK view if you resize the window enough. (perhaps this helps, Cheetah?)

Personally I really like the way Nokia did it with 8 columns in the mini calendar view, showing the week number first. And yes, in my line of work it is also usual to make appointments and schedules based on week numbers...

I understand the problem, but he was asking that people who are privy to such information should break their NDAs.

My suggestion was offered as a temporary solution in the meantime - and in the possible event that iCal in Leopard may not *do* week numbers.

Yeah, I would like fiscal week numbers displayed in iCal too. We use them at work for scheduling everything. Like, "This, we hope, will be done by FW42."

Seems straightforward enough to build one public calendar with Week1-Week52, then subscribe to that calendar.

WrestleEwe: yeah 8 columns is what it should have, the first one for the week number.
Mac+: Thx, I will look into it at that time maybe if Leopoard doesnt feature it. But I hate having to use 3rd party apps for such a basic feauture. For a European, week numbers in calendars are as important as week days (i.e. monday, tuesday etc). iCal really isn't a calendar app for a European so far. It's lacking so much basics.

CHEETAH - You're welcome.

I have also wished for a lot more from iCal and was hoping that menubar access would be integrated with Tiger. (see thread from 2005)

You really should give "MenuCalendarClock for iCal" a shot now though. Admittedly, it is a 3rd party app, but it is rock solid and the free version means you have nothing to lose. Also, if you are a minimalist, it keeps iCal out of The Dock and gives you access to whatever you need from the menu bar.

Of course! This have been done since some days after iCal launched many moons ago.

I think you'll have to make due with the Swedish version, but it's a piece of cake to modify it for any language.

I would count on week numers in iCal for Leopard..
