Have you ever noticed that the word 'savvy' is almost never used except to say 'tech-savvy'. Pirates of the Caribbean had a slight effect on the words usage as people would emulate Jack Sparrow, but that never exactly caught on past 14 year old girls. As it stands, the vast majority of incidences where the word 'savvy' is used, it is prefaced by 'tech'. Most often in this phrase: "I was trying to check my email, but I'm not very tech-savvy", but a popular variation is "hey man, you're tech-savvy, can you help me out with this?".

Or maybe it is just not West Coast lingo? savvy?

I really don't hear the word savvy that much at all.

I'm with you that I only hear it when referring to someone being tech inclined.

I guess it's just one of those words that aren't really used that much.

I hear it used in old westerns occasionally. Also, NPR has (or had, I haven't listened in a while) a program called "The Savvy Traveler".

edit: ah, it's over:

I only hear it used in those "tech-savvy" or "media-savvy" ways too.

When I hear the word savvy, I picture some whore with cold sores and tons of salve smeared on them.

You almost need your own TV show. I'd watch, sure.

They're not all that bad. Nadine Velazquez, for example is full of win.

Plus, it's one of the few places that offers decent hi-res photos.

Are you serious? I love that show!

No wonder they never update their website...

Don't EVER get murbot to interpret the Rorschach Ink Blot Test for you!!!

(That's the kind of thing that drives people like torifile into early retirement!!)

I've heard the word in context of political hand-wringing, too.

I guess it's just on its way out. Not exactly the first word to go obsolete, nor will it be last.
