Have you ever noticed that the word 'savvy' is almost never used except to say 'tech-savvy'. Pirates of the Caribbean had a slight effect on the words usage as people would emulate Jack Sparrow, but that never exactly caught on past 14 year old girls. As it stands, the vast majority of incidences where the word 'savvy' is used, it is prefaced by 'tech'. Most often in this phrase: "I was trying to check my email, but I'm not very tech-savvy", but a popular variation is "hey man, you're tech-savvy, can you help me out with this?".
Or maybe it is just not West Coast lingo? savvy? |

I hear it used in old westerns occasionally. Also, NPR has (or had, I haven't listened in a while) a program called "The Savvy Traveler".

I only hear it used in those "tech-savvy" or "media-savvy" ways too.

When I hear the word savvy, I picture some whore with cold sores and tons of salve smeared on them.

I've heard the word in context of political hand-wringing, too.
I guess it's just on its way out. Not exactly the first word to go obsolete, nor will it be last. |
