Following in pscates2.0's footsteps of top 5 lists, I was wondering what others thought. I had a conversation about this at work and here is a rough list I came up with off the cuff:
5. Cradle of Love, Billy Idol. I was an adolescent at the time...it stuck with me and my sheets. 4. Hello, Lionel Richie. Hilarious, and a bit awkward. 3. Here I Go Again, Whitesnake. Obvious reasons...a classic 2. Virtual Insanity, Jamiroquai. It was unique 1. Hot for Teacher, Van Halen. Everything a music video should be that you never see anymore. |

Mine are all older, back when MTV and VH-1 actually played the things...
In no particular order (just ones I like)...and I'll even provide YouTube links so everyone can easily see for themselves!
Honorable mention, 80's Cheese/Guilty Pleasure Division:

Great vids. I especially enjoyed Girls on Film, it brought back memories. Careless Memories, even. Those guys were really pretty good back in the day. |

1. Satisfaction - Benny Benassi
After that, everything else is for amateurs, though, Hot for Teacher *was* my favorite when I was a kid. Good song, hot chics, and it was intentionally and successfully funny on some levels. "SiDOWN... WALdo!" ...into the light of a dark black night. |

Not repeating any here, I hope...
1. A-Ha "Take on Me" Cheesy song, excellent video. 2. Gorillaz "Clint Eastwood" Incorporates Thriller's dance number, therefore, supersedes it. 3. Royksopp "Remind Me" Bland electronic, excellent graphics. You can probably sense a trend here. 4. Nine Inch Nails "Closer" Got really cliche, but this was amazing at the time. 5. Weird Al Yankovic "Amish Pardise" 6. Tool "Sober" 7. kmfdm "A Drug Against War" Ok, not great execution, really, but neat concept. |

I've determined that nobody at AppleNova can count.
Mr. Mexico asks for five videos, and he's getting one, seven, three, etc. Hell, even I gave him six (but I designated that last one as a special honorable mention, so...). "What's your favorite color?" "Couch." Thread title should just be changed to "list however many you're feeling at the moment since nobody seems to grasp that whole 'five' thing...". |

Oh common now, you don't really think I'm a punk. I'm too old to be a punk first of all, and second of all asking for 5 favorite videos is kind of (though somewhat easier) like asking for 5 favorite movie characters or 5 favorite foods. So, rather than list 5 favorite by genre (as I was forced to do with movies), I listed one, citing all others as weak sauce, except for the one Van Halen classic. I'm all about the simplicity.

It's funny to be referred to as "Mr. Mexico" given the origin of the screen name.
Here are some honorable mentions: When the Going Gets Tough, Billy Ocean Stacey's Mom, Fountains of Wayne I agree with Girls on Film, Duran Duran Summertime, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince Last edited by ronmexico : 2008-01-26 at 16:15. |

Guns'n'Roses: November Rain: Ludicrous, but somehow sublime. Queen: I Want To Break Free: Insane, hilarious, and just plain odd. Foo Fighters: The Pretender: Tons of energy, and I love that red shiny screen thingy. Fatboy Slim: Weapon Of Choice: Christopher Walken, dancing. Awesome. Daft Punk: Around The World: Strange costumes, awkward dancing - fits the song perfectly. Oh, and honorable mention: Peter Gabriel: Sledgehammer: Looks like crap nowadays, but when it came out, it was an "event". Last edited by Bryson : 2008-01-26 at 17:13. |

Good selections...I haven't seen the queen or daft punk videos before. I Want To Break Free made me feel, I don't know, uncomfortable...it was funny.

I've picked out my 5 based on the video + music interaction and what it generates. There's no point in music videos if the two aren't interrelated, and most music videos are just the performers performing, which is fine, but not remarkable in any way. These are.
Chage & Aska - On Your Mark --- Seriously the best Music Video I've ever seen. Sooo powerful. Rammstein - Engel --- Some fan took 12+ hours of Anime TV show and made this. Having watched the show before watching this, I honestly can't judge the impact on you guys, but in any case the timing is just incredible, and it is watchable for that part alone. And now for your regularly scheduled program: Coldcut & Hexstatic - Timber --- The timing. and context. The music is worthless without the picture. Fatboy Slim - Praise You --- Just fun. And incredibly well made. R.E.M. - Losing My Religion --- No need to comment on this one. Converted 07/2005. |

I have lots of good music videos, but the creepiest/best atmosphere award goes to Aphex Twin's "Come To Daddy"

Seeing someone post the Röyksopp video... there's a guy called Martin de Thurah, he's a Danish director, and I think he might actually be a proper genius.
He did this video for Röyksopp good quality: http://www.hosting-media.com/fr/virg...8125-01_07.ram youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOt15JsLloU ...which is one of the weirdest/most amazing videos I've seen, and it also has an extremely hot Scandinavian singer in it. and he also did this video for Carpark North called Human. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHsdi...eature=related It starts out like a particular kind of video and then after about a minute you begin to go 'Er... is this... fucked up?' (it is). His website's gone a bit weird, but you can see his other videos there. (Also World Leader: 'Come to Daddy'. Oh yes.) gibberish Last edited by Hassan i Sabbah : 2008-01-28 at 11:40. |
