I'm considering upgrading my G4 Quicksilver 800mhz dual processor, for editing film with Final Cut-pro HD. Anyone who has had previous experience in similar situation wants to give me some feedback on any of these OWC products?

I'm in the same boat with a single 733qs
here's what i read today at macbytes: In related news, the latest unofficial reports regarding PowerLogix indicate that Dual G4/1.2-1.4GHz 7457 with 4MB of L3 cache upgrades for the Cube are expected to ship sometime before the end of the year. I'd call that a new performance standard for Cube! I'm hearing "proprietary VRM bypass", so power will in no way be an issue for these. Furthermore, a single G4/7457 @ 1.4GHz with 512K L2 1:1 and 2MB L3 is comparable in performance to a single G4/7447 @ 1.7GHz - which has only the 512K L2 cache an no L3. Look for Dual pricing in the $599 range - a nice performance boost for not much more cash. Single G4 7457 @ 1.4GHz should be around $399 - which will give the same performance as the Sonnet G4/7447 @ 1.7GHz, but for 20% less. *********************** so if you can wait the powerlogix looks great... I've been waiting for three+ months and counting... ![]() - Michael Droste Itunes Link Stop By: TrumpetStudio.com or SaveThePlanetSong.org Some Main Gear: AT4050, Dual 1.8 G4, Logic, Waves Plat, Waves SSL, Tritone, URS, PSP, Zebra, BFD, RND, Sony Oxford, Altiverb... |

Powerlogix?
Their products maybe good but their service is sucks. I used the upgrade card for 1 year and failed. Then I returned it and they admitted it was diffective under warranty. I've been waiting for replacement almost 2 years and never received the replacement. They don't respond to my calls or emails. They need money to warrant their products. see below. http://www.powerlogix.com/press/rele...04/040920.html BTW, I'm a very happy user of Sonnet now. If you could find identical card from Sonnet, pick that one. |

Sonnet and Powerlogix both make decent products. I have had nothing but good experience with OWC products.
Beware, upgrading the cpu on a Quicksilver is one huge pain in the ass. The metal "ties" that secure the processor to the logic board are a bitch to get off and 1 little slip (because they take a great deal of effort to remove and one side is very difficult to get at) with your screwdriver and you need a new logic board. Go slow and be very careful. |
