I got the call about 2 hours ago.
Tough times, financial industry in turmoil, must maximize profits, so I'm being let go as of next Thursday.

Bossman expected me to cry, beg or something. Really surprised him when I acted happy and relieved.

This is like a farking weight off of my chest. I have felt horrible about what I did for a living (helping banks choose which prey to target for credit cards and such) for over 2 years now and I feel so liberated that I don't have to do that crap any more.

Worried about money and such, but I feel free and happy for the first time in years. I did not realize how much the job had affected me and how miserable I was until now.

Off to pound the keys for web and/or database work.
Maybe I'll go back into medicine, finally get my Master's, go back to school for a teaching degree or ??????????.

You're looking at eons of repression getting purged. If only they'd let us jerk off.

Well... I'm both sorry and glad for you then.

Very best of luck in finding something that not only pay the bills but keeps your peace of mind. Bringing you actual joy, would be a bonus!

I had a similar experience years ago when I was telemarketing credit cards, except I quit. I actually had a brutal sore throat that wouldn't go away until I quit, then it was gone the next day. My body literally said "we can't do this @#$% anymore!"

Speaking of that, I used to dial the US all the time. I wonder if I ever harassed one of you guys 10 years ago... If anyone got a call from a cheerful sounding Canadian from First USA, I apologize!

That's good news, kretara.

I actually was in similar position, though the company I was with then was great, the job I was doing was a crappy fit for me. When they laid me off, they actually did me a favor, and that was back in October, when economy was pretty bleak. I managed to pick up a new job and am lovin' it. If I can find a job in that doom'n'gloom period, then you can, too!

Good luck with the job hunt, kretara! Though,if you can afford it then I would suggest you go for education. The downturn will probably keep on going for a couple more years, but that only makes it an ideal time to go back to school.

Absolutely true. As a student, I have yet to feel the impact of the "crisis", although, our university is cash-strapped. If they cancel some of our lower-enrolled classes like Tibetan, I'm not sure what I'll do...
