Like what million other said, I've tried pressing the menu and the select button and holding it down a thousand times, and it still does not work. My IPOD is completely frozen. Is there any way I can fix this? This happened to me last year and it was fortunate to have my mother get me a new one but I don't want this happening again. When I connect it to my computer, my computer DOES NOT recognize it all. Please, is there are a way to get my IPOD back to normal? Here's a picture of my frozen IPOD:

I've tried many different ways to restore my IPOD, but they do not work. =/

Yeah, the only tricks I know to force a reboot on that model are to hold menu and select or to just wait for the battery to totally drain. Since you've tried the former, you'll probably need to wait it out for the latter.

Are those black streaks on the screen? It looks like it might have been jolted and damaged somehow, which might result in it freezing up like this. Have you recently dropped it or otherwise mishandled it?

Also, it's "iPod", not "IPOD". It's not an acronym.

^No the streaks are not the cause of it because I had it like that for over an year now, and it had been working perfectly fine. It froze while it was connected to my computer earlier this morning. I wanted to update my iPod and on the screen, it said, "Do not Disconnect" However, on Itunes, it did not say "Updating Ipod. Do not disconnect" like it always does .. so I just unplugged the iPod, then it suddenly froze. I am really frustrated. I've tried rebooting it (hold menu) and did not work. And I don't think waiting for the battery to totally drain would work because my screen is COMPLETELY frozen. It froze at around 10:00 this morning (the battery was 100% full green), and it's 4:30 now .... the battery still wouldn't show as 100% green, would it?

Well, if the screen is frozen, it won't show any updates to the battery meter even though it is discharging. I'd give it a full day at least to discharge. It'll be a slow process since it's not actively doing anything that requires power other than powering the screen, but it will fully discharge eventually.

Patience! I wouldn't suggest going into panic mode until you can try reconnecting and rebooting it after it shuts down from the power drain.

^So I should expect my iPod to be shut down when I check tomorrow morning? I have a scary feeling, it will still remain frozen when I check tomorrow morning just like last time when it happened. =( We'll see.

By the way, I didn't mention this ... but the LOCK might be the reason why I'm not able to restore it back. If you can see in the picture, top left, there's a lock symbol =|

Move the LOCK button on the top all the way to the lock position, then all the way back to the unlock position, and try the reset again.

You may already know this, but you do need to hold down the buttons for a good few seconds for it to restart.

My 5th gen iPod does this every so often, and the reset fixes it.
