Hey!

Here is the problem:

1.) I had MacOS 10.5, then I upgraded it to (i.e. not a clean installation) 10.6 with all the updates. Approximately a month later, I had a kernel panic and the HDD was damaged. So, I repaired the HDD using the disk utility. Following that, formatted the HDD (zero-out data) and then did a clean installation of MacOS 10.6 with all the updates.

2.) A week later, another kernel panic. I checked the HDD, and this time it appeared to be O.K. Ran a disk permission verification and that is also fine.

My question is:

Should I get ready to replace my HDD? or is this something else?

Thanks a bunch

It is possible that the kernel panic is related to other hardware problems, it could be just about anything, like a bad RAM stick.

2 more kernel panics, they are more frequent now. How do I find out where the problem lies? I mean I really don't want to get a new computer right now. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

i.e. can a bad battery cause a kernel panic? just wondering

I think it is very unlikely that a battery would cause a kernel panic, although if there is a problem with the power management hardware that could cause a problem.

I think your best bet is to get the computer looked at. There is really now way for us to know what the cause is.

found the problem. It was the VPN client, upgrading to anyconnect VPN did the job. Apparently, many have had the problem with 10.6 and VPN. Thanks.
