So in cleaning up since moving into my new place I moved a cabinet I had in the corner of my bedroom and found this.

My body doesn't like mold at all. To make this worse it I've been seeing mold on my window frames and moldings. I thought it was just where condensation was not being able to dry due to my blinds being down all the time but this has me worried. Got any idea on what I need to do for this? Other than the obvious cleanup for this spot. Seems like there might be a larger issue with the house.

That's not good. Some of these molds are fairly toxic.

There is a source of moisture that is above normal environmental levels. Your roof or walls of the house could be leaking.

If this is a systemic problem in your house, ie not in one spot, you will need to get a dehumidifier. In either case, the mold is not going to go away with just a surface cleaning, and the spores will remain around even if you do dry out your house. The only real solution is tearing out the walls that are spoiled and starting over (most people will simply live with a dehumidifier and ignore the spores)...

In either case, you really should invest in a small portable humidity sensor and check to make sure you aren't living in a swamp. Anything above 50% relative humidity will almost certainly allow mold to grow on virtually any surface.

Sometimes it gets trapped under wallpaper. It is an issue with older wallpapers that cover exterior walls.

We had a mould problem in a house I lived in a few years back. Blitz the spores with a chlorine based cleaner, and if you can take down the wallpaper you'll have a better idea of whether it's a problem with the wall or not. Turn the heating up and try to get that room bone dry.

The de-humidifier is good advice but not a permanent solution.

I would get a surveyor in to have a look and see what they think. Did this problem spring up between you signing the lease on the house and arriving, or did you just not notice it when you visited the house?

Dude, you have a bedroom with pink carpet and girlie wallpaper. Spores may not be the biggest problem.

Thanks for the input guys. The wallpaper and carpet were here long before I took possession of the house! It was the previous owner's idea of good decor. My wife and I haven't removed it because it's the first time our walls haven't been white.

I have decided to bite the bullet and called out ServePro. The issues with seeing mold on my window casings as well as this corner really have me concerned. My body doesn't like mold at all. Really. I know I have an allergen in the house right now because shortly after getting home my sinuses backup and clog. I have free breathing shortly after leaving the house though.

Tomorrow the rep will be here and I'll find out what the best course of action will be at that time.

So my humidity in the bedroom (where the pic was taken) is only 42% RH. Highest was 43%. Doesn't seem to be too bad of a level from what I've seen. Now to see what ServePro says in the morning. I'll let you all know.
