I'm wondering if anyone knows.
Is there going to be an iBook G5 in 2005? Like in september or october maybe? |

I'm not sure if it's gonna be in september or october but, by this time your thread will be thousands of pages long... for sure!

Well theres only a few months more till summer, and in the summer i'm not gonna use a laptop if i have one, so I was thinking that if i just waited a year, i might get rewarded with a G5.

It's not summer here yet. But if I got an iBook now, I would only use it untill the beginning of june, cause i go to camp then, and then it's september, and they'll have something way better.
It's like 15º celcius here. |

Pardon my english... I just meant that you're already in summer... in your mind...
Anyway, if you don't really need an iBook for the next five months... just wait! P.S. Damn, 15° celcius!... where are you? |

I think it's possible that it will be released to take advantage of the whole "back to school" crowd. Y'know, the more I think about it, the more I think it's possible that the Powerbook and the iBook would go G5 at the same time...

What i'm worried about is that they will do what they did when the PowerBook went to G4.
The iBook could stay a G4 for up to two years after the PowerBook Goes G5. |

holy crap macgeek... you need to use the SEARCH OPTION before making another monotinous topic like this one. There are a bazillion threads exactly like this, the mods seriously need to lock this topic

uh.. there is no other thread talking about the iBook G5.
???? Can you give me the link to one? |

Type iBook G5 in the forum search.

I DID!!!
theres nothing about the iBook G5. The only forum that relates the the iBook G5, is the one that's about whether the iBook G5 and the PowerBook G5 will be realeased at the same time. But it doesn't talk about the iBook G5, or about when it will be realeased. |

Lay off macgeek, guys. He already did the appropriate search and didn't find a thread about this. He's right, the only previous mention of the iBook G5 was a bunch of people who jumped on that typo from some company's documents that listed "iBook G5" and "PowerBook G5." Those were just a typo; macgeek is speculating on a future product.
That said, the chances of even getting a PowerBook G5 this year are around 50/50 (at least that's what I'd guess). Given how long it's taken to simply move up from 1.5 GHz, it could be a while. The rumored 1.67 GHz revision may well have to make do for yet another nearly-one-full-year upgrade cycle. I hope it doesn't, but it might. Maybe the PowerBook G5 will be introduced at MWSF 2006. It is certainly anticipated enough to justify being center stage at such an event, and somehow I don't think Steve Jobs will want to just roll out speedbumped iMacs or whatever. So if a PowerBook G5 coming out in 2005 has a 50/50 chance, the chances of an iBook G5 in 2005 are almost nil. I'd give it maybe a 0.05% chance. |

I beg to differ...I started a thread, about two weeks ago, that talked about PowerBook and iBooks getting a G5 at the same time (reasoning that if Apple can fit a 1.8GHz or so G5 into a thin, sleek PowerBook, then they can certainly fit a 1.6GHz - or lower - G5 into a thicker, roomier iBook). I even started that thread a few days BEFORE that Digitimes article that got everyone so hopped up (someone in the thread comments on my clairvoyance). http://forums.applenova.com/showthread.php?t=3309 Yeah, it kinda petered out, but in my initial, opening post I talk about the iBook G5, and the reasons it could/should exist, in great depth and detail...and make a pretty bitchin' case. |

I would be very suprised if we don't see a new Powerbook this year..
I guess it will have a G5 in it... but then again it may be not quite what we expect There are other chip options.. But the line up will be updated this year with more than a speed bump. I read you comments on the iBook Paul, and you make a good case.. but I think that we will not see it in the iBook before we see it in the PB, and it will be late in the PB, so that may well artificially delay the iBook debut. Let me put it this way: I would be extremely surprised if we didn't see a Powerbook G5 by the end of 2005, and I don't think we will face nearly as long of a "lag time" before the iBooks get the new processor.
I'm pretty sure the alledgedly "imminent" bump for the Powerbook G4 will be its last. And if we don't see the PBG5 this year, and it's not at Macworld SF 2006, then I'll buy everybody on this forum a Coke. (Could get pricy!) This may be wishful thinking, but after the Mac mini, I believe Apple can make all of my wildest dreams come true. PBG5 at WWDC, iBook G5 around back-to-school time (Paris seems too late). Throw in the Mac mini, and bingo - Apple's best year ever. But hey - I'm an optimist. |

The way Apple usually is, we probably won't see an iBook G5 until the end of 2007 or so.
And if they get on with the PowerBook G5 alot faster than they were planning too, we might get it by summer 2006. You might say i'm a pessimist, but I also know how Apple does their stuff. |

There's much life left in the G4 line yet for Apple to explore. 7447/B is reaching 1.67 GHz as we speak and after that we have 7448 on 90 nm reaching up to 2 GHz. After that, we have 8641 and its dual core brother 8641D going past 2 GHz. These processors might not be as powerful as IBM's offerings but they will be more suited for laptop use. The 8641D will operate inside a power range of 15-25W says Freescale. A dual core 8641D running at ~2 GHz isn't too shabby now is it? It won't be inside a Mac mini either.
After that we have e700 doing all kinds of neat stuff approaching 3 GHz. |

When are the normal times the iBook's are updated?
Around April, and around October? that's what someone told me. |

probably i think the pb "may" get a g5 by the end of 2005, the ibook probably during 2006. i was told to wait for my imac at least 5-9 weeks. it turned out to be 3 weeks, so who knows really? IMAC G5 - since 2004 december never forget that day - 1,8 ghz 20inch, 1gb memory, 160 gb harddrive |

All this speculation, has put me off buying for the last 6 months.
So now with all that extra money saved I can buy into higher in the range, and still buy a i-Book as well, now if I can hold on just another month I can get a tablet as well But with all these hold ups with the G5, perhaps I will, by then, have the money to employ someone to do my work for me |
