Hey all! I hope this is in the right forums area (if not please move it to the proper area, Brad. Thanks!) I know this is a REALLY general vague kind of question, but any help is greatly appreciated.
We don't really have an IT kind of guy at my workplace; we sort of have one that shows up every four months and does a few things, then disappears, LOL; so I'd like to figure this out sooner than that. ANYWAY, I'm attempting to set up my computer to print to one of our printers. I'm not really an expert on IT kinds of things, so I might sound stupid, but we have a network here, I know LAN is somehow involved; I can get internet and email through the cable hookup with my Powerbook; which is also the same cable the network and printers are connected by. I can also connect to other network computers here, so that is working as well. BUT everytime I attempt to set up my printer, it never works. We have a Minolta Magicolor 3300, and I went onto the Minolta website, and downloaded the PPD (which is new to me, I'm used to Windows drivers; I take it that everything I need, INCLUDING the drivers, are in the Mac PPD; because there are no separate drivers available on their site) and saved that to my computer, etc. The PPD file is there, I've seen it/looked at it's info. So I go to setup my printer, choosing IP network (since it's over a LAN kind of cable network setup thing??), and then, the printer type sort of alludes me (would it be Internet printing Protocol? - On the PC, it selects RAW over LPR; but the Mac doesn't have RAW listed in the printer type options) so I type in my printer address, which it says it valid and correct; and choose the printer model (which should automatically select the PPD? Right?) But it never lists a driver version in the printer info. when I'm all finished; and the Epson printer I have at home, it does list it's driver version, so I can't figure out what is missing?) and then it just says it's connecting to the host; but then just says it's busy; but it's not, cause the printer is just sitting there idle, and is working fine otherwise. I swear this is probably confusing, and if it's too much to ask on forums, ignore or delete. But I just thought I'd see if anyone out there had ideas! Appreciate it greatly! |
