Newspaper 'The Business', issue 27/28 February 2005 reported that Apple has been accused of selling used computers as new. The class action has been filed in the California Superior Court in San Franscisco.
I bought an iMac G5 last week. How do I find out if it was a used product? |

You know I might have been on Apple's side in this one if it wasn't for the fact that I have always had to import from the US to get things at anything near a fair price in the UK. I am so sick and tired of the bullshit £ for $ pricing that prevailed for many years that I have to say that perhaps they had something like this coming to them.
I am glad someone is finally taking the to task over it. Although I don't want to actually see them pay out. I would rather they had the same experience as I know the P2P Tiger publishers have had, which is parhaps a great big scare and some time to reflect on their actions. I hope the other practices are not proved, as thay would be sad. Although it has to be said that all manufacturers do it... I wonder if there is any M$ money behind this? It's strange that Apple would get hit when Dell and HP and all the other myriad producers of consumer hardware break all the same rules on a daily basis!! Yeah, that's the only odd part about all of this. Dell is a much larger company, with deeper pockets. I would have expected them to get hit up first. Although, the class action alleges so many various transgressions, perhaps they were going for quantity over quality.

I believe there are certain departments in Apple that are cutting corners / whose performance is suffering because they are pouring most of their resources into digital media apps and the iPod line, as well as OS X.
To me, the quality inspection of all their computers and screens has gone significantly downhill the last two years or so, and the consistency of their customer service and returns policy actions is very poor. Seems like half the people you talk to are thrilled because they got a brand new whatever, no questions asked, and half are sick to death of Apple because they get the constant run-around even with serious problems. They need to get their head out of their ass because things are looking very positive for them overall; this is not the time to slack off and suffer bad lawsuits / customer gripes all over the internet, etc. It's almost like there are two Apple Computer companies: the one that makes the software and industrial designs everyone loves, and the one that forgets to check everything twice and put a polish on every new product. I have little trouble believing there are some slackers in their order fulfillment / QA / returns area, who are not going by the book and are stuffing refurbed items into new boxes, etc. Disheartening really. Regardless of what you think trolling is, apple hardware, apple business practices, apple customer relations, apple warranties, and apple service are ALL shite. If you don't think so, you've never spent much time with apple equipment and you certainly don't work for apple or apple authorized reseller / service center. Don't believe me? Read the article. It speaks the truth. The only advantage to using apple equipment is that it runs apple software, which is badass. Unfortunately some people can't handle this and have to resort to personal attacks in response to such an opinion.

In the last 15 years, I've sold and serviced everything from a Mac Plus to a Power Mac G5 as one or the other of the above. How about you, Mister Black? |

What can you expect when you make a bunch of unsubstantiated claims and then don't really back them up with anything? If you would like to demonstrate your position, please do so, and don't be surprised when you run into backlash from a freakin' Apple-related message board.

Well, I guess if Apple hardware is only good for running Apple software, I'd better quit the dozen third-party programs I'm currently running; trash the other forty or fifty other third-party programs on my hard drive; disconnect my third-party monitor, printer, router, speakers, keyboard, and mouse; pull out my self-installed third-party combo drive, RAM, hard drives, and video card; and put this ridiculous lump of technology up on eBay.
Thanks for clueing me in, Mister Black. I almost made a horrible mistake of using this Apple crap! ![]() The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. worse than someone calling you a troll. I believe I added to the discussion with the first question I asked you - "shite compared to what exactly- Dell? HP?" Yes, I'm sometimes disappointed by Apple as a company, and occasionally disappointed by their hardware quality and QC. Then I compare it to anything else available, outside of the fact that those alternatives also run Windoze, and Apple doesn't look so bad. |

Can we lock this and end it...? I have been away for the week skydiving in southern Thailand for the Thai Sky Festival to raise money for the children of Thailand and people affected by the Tsunami.. A great event and loads of fun...
I come back to this kind of stupid thread and wonder what the point is! Please go away Mister Black you really don't make any sense at all...!! Incidently... All the video shot down there was editted on Macs, which were out in the middle of a massive airfield in the open air.. These machnes were on all day long in the baking heat taking video from Sony cameras and buring DVDs and the like all without any hassle... The majority of professional skydivers that I know use Apple kit alongside third party hardware and both Apple and third party software... It all works flawlessly in all environments, including in open air craft holds at 16,000feet!!! I am not saying a PC won't do that, but I and my buddies certainly don't have any problems with our Macs and wouldn't use anything else.. I have also always had pretty good support from Apple as a company without any kind of corporate or professional account. I don't like their old pricing policies but still bought the stuff because if you are a creative individual or work with any kind of media they are the machine of choice and have been for years... Jeez, guys. Not only did you fall for the bait, you resurrected and kept alive an old thread that had already dropped of the active list for several days. It was ended before you started posting in it again...
