Did Apple ever get around to releasing the rumoured iSight update? Tiger has convinced me that having an iSight is now worthwhile, but I know there was a rumour skulking around a few months ago about an updated iSight. Obviously I'd like the most up-to-date one (I'm thinking of buying 2 which is a lot of dosh to waste if a new one is about to be released).

Also - is the microphone in an iSight good enough to allow noise free voiceovers in iMovie/Final Cut Express or is a standalone mic the order of the day?

I remember reading that people had recieved new iSight models, but they weren't really different from the older ones in any substantial way. Can't remember the details.

I believe the only difference was an included iSight mount for the (then) new iMac G5s.

And it seems like there were some microphone/audio enhancements and improvements as well. Did I dream that, or did I see that written about somewhere?

EDIT:

Here we go, from ThinkSecret.com on March 7, 2005 (just a little over one month ago):

Quote:
More iSight Rev/C details
Apple has started shipping the newly-revised iSight in the last week, several readers report. The iSight, code-named Q8A Rev3, includes one less mounting bracket and is said to feature an improved microphone.

The right-angle clear plastic adhesive mount is no longer included in the iSight package. Instead, customers with older Apple LCD displays will have to purchase the $29 iSight Accessory Kit to obtain that mount. Apple's iSight information page incorrectly still lists the iSight as including four mounts.

Unconfirmed reports also suggest the iSight has gained an improved noise supressing microphone. For those interested, one reader put together an extensive photo album of their revision C iSight.

Curiously, documents obtained by Think Secret suggest the existence of Q8A Rev4, presumably another iSight, which is scheduled to ship in the near future.

That last paragraph is interesting...
