I have had my eMac 1.25Ghz for about a year at work and I love it. If the stupid tax man hadn't raided my savings account (stupid Social Security for self-employed people) I might have one at home by now. My questions are about performance and Tiger.

First off, I have 512MB of ROM now. Would I see a significant increase in perforance (specifically VirtualPC and iMovie) if I upgraded to 1Gig of RAM?

Second, I know the eMac video card is not listed in the supported cards for Core Image, but would Tiger run faster that Panther, or would I not see a difference in performance? Also, are there any other features in Tiger that the eMac wouldn't be able to take advantage of because of slower hardware?

Thanks so much!

Doubling your RAM is rarely a bad thing. I don't know how much difference you'll notice on VPC (seems to me that it would mostly be dependent on CPU speed), but you'll likely notice a difference in iMovie.
(One note, though... RAM stands for Random Access Memory. Nothing permanent is saved on it. ROM stands for Read-Only Memory, like a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM.)

As for Tiger, you will almost certainly see a speed increase. Core Image just handles photoshop-style effects, I believe, and you won't notice it day-to-day. Even though your video card doesn't support it, it will still work. Rather than having the video card do it, the CPU will, with help from AltiVec. It won't be as fast, but its not a day-to-day thing anyway.

Any other features? Not that I'm aware of. FYI, I'm running 8a425, and I love it. You won't be disappointed.

iLOL, the ROM thing was a typo, but thanks for the lesson! I guess my MIS degree was a waist!

As for the other info, my next hurtle will be convincing our church council I NEED 512MB of RAM and a new OS for a computer they bought me last year!

Haha about the RAM/ROM thing. Maybe it'll help the next guy ;-).
