Hello folks,

I purchased an iBook G4 in december of '04, and I have to say I haven't been all too impressed by the quality. The reason I went Mac was two fold, one because PC laptops generally suck, and I wanted to learn Cocoa/Carbon/etc. The laptop was brand new, and thus far has had a failed hard drive and now a failed power adapter. I don't want to seem like I'm trying to flame here, but I don't mistreat my lil iBook, and while I have probably used it more in the first 3 months than most people would in a year (slave to CS research), it just doesn't seem like it's held up very well.

Has anyone else had any problems with their iBooks? I mean, in the first year or so, things really shouldn't go wrong.

EDIT: Crap, I just noticed that there was a topic on this already, didn't see it before, sorry folks. Btw, while there have been problems with the iBook, Apple's support has been greatness...6 days round-trip for a hard drive repair is awesome in my book.

It seems to be about 1/6th have issues, but that's still generally better than the industry as a whole.

My iBook from October '04 doesn't have any issues. But the assembly quality could have been better. I'm probably the kind of person who usually mistreat his hardware, but this littlel iBook has been able to take to punishment easily so far.

Maybe your's is a monday job

My Jan. '05 iBook is good... blew its first logic board in February, but since the repair it's been golden. I love my iBook

Also, at first I was worried about how the power adapter handles the modified sine-wave current generated by an automotive power inverter (some laptops don't like it). I tried it out on a trip for the first time today (with my $17 Wal-Mart inverter), and I've had no issues. It just sat there powering fine for 7 hours.

I've had 3 iBooks before i got my powerbook and never once had and issue like that. even when i tripped and landed on my g3 ibook it booted up fine with absolutly no issues.

Hey

Had my iBook G4 for about 2 months now, and it's running fine! accompanies me everywhere in my bag, and takes the odd knock and bump and still runs like a trooper!

Update: got a new power adapter (picked up applecare a few days ago) free of charge no questions asked. Score one for Apple.

I got my iBook in september '04, had no problems with it what so ever. the only thing i don't like is that the screen doesn't quite lineup with the base when its folded. But since its rarely folded and I use it as more or less a desktop, it doesn't matter!!

That is, no issues with the iBook. The car's alternator caught on fire (seriously) somewhere in PA. There's $270 down the drain. Although I was at first sure that my iBook was at fault, the guy reassured me that the alternator was old anyways...

That, and it was my parents' car. They weren't too happy about that.
