I have a new PB and sometimes this thing gets hot to the point of discomfort on my lap. I know there's a fan but I've never heard it spin up. Heck, the whole powerbook is virtually silent. Is there an application I can use to monitor the status of the fan to see if it's even turning on?

OOC what model of PB is this, I don't know about a prog to monitor it but i do know that when my PB 15" kick on the fan i can hear it. This may also be because it's older too so. You might look into getting a cooling pad for it, Plug into the USB for power, Place underneath the PB and blows air on the underside. Works Wonders.

I used to have an 867MHz 15in. TiBook, upgraded to new 1.67GHz 15in PB. I used to hear my fan all the time on the old PB. I have never heard the fan on the new one.
