I'm not sure if this is deliberate by Apple or not, but I've got Tiger on two Macs at home and so far both of them have missed the following updates:
  • Security Update 2005-005
  • DVD Player 4.6
  • iTunes 4.8
  • Pro Application Support 3.0

Ordinarily I'd expect to see them all on Software Update but I had to manually track them down on the Apple Downloads page. Do you think there's a bug in Tiger S/w Update so they're not using it yet?

This is not only a problem with Tiger.

I am using 10.3.9 and do not have the updates yet (though I do believe some are Tiger only).

I am sure this has been mentioned in other threads, but I think it is hidden amongst the discussion.

When I needed to install the iWork updates when I reinstalled them, software update picked them up easily.

Security Update 2005-005 is for 10.3.9 and the others haven't been released through SU for some reason.

After having made a clean install of Mac OS X Server 10.4, I'm not getting any Software Updates from the Software Update client, AND... if I ask for a Software Update through Server Admin, then I'm getting this same darn repeated crash message in the Server Admin server log until I reboot the server:

May 13 07:38:43 LiveSys1 servermgrd: servermgr_info: [49] about to execute " softwareupdate -q -l -f /private/var/run/SoftwareUpdateStatus.plist --lang English "
May 13 07:38:59 LiveSys1 servermgrd: servermgr_info: [49] unexpected Software Update state: crashed

It seems a lot slower, when it looks for new updates.

The folks at MacNN's forums have noticed this same issue. Some have come to the conclusion -- to which rasmits alludes -- that the software updates are just taking their own sweet time showing up in SU. The problem could be over on Apple's end.

I have exactly the same error, also after a clean install then upgrade to 10.4.1. No idea so far what the problem is.

I haven't had any problems on either my 10.3 G4 at work or my 10.4 PowerBook at home. Seems like Apple has lately been taking longer between the time it's posted for download and the time it's available on SU.

Shhhh, I can't see!

My PowerBook picked up the QT 7.0.1 update on Software Update yesterday. The PB also picked up some of the other updates as well. My iMac on the other hand hasn't found the pre QT 7.0.1 updates (will have to run software update tonight to see if it picks up the QT update).

My server sees new updates as well, through the machine's software update application (under the apple menu). As a server, though, it's designed to download and mirror apple's updates for the other users on our network. It does download them, but crashes as desribed above, and as other server users have noted. It's not something you'd see on the MacOSX client versions.

Downloading the QuickTime update at the moment, showed up this evening in SU.
The 4.1 update didn't show up before I grabbed it from the Apple site though.
Probably impatient. :-)
