Are there any advantages or disadvantages with having this side panel off on the G5?

I believe having the metal side panel off does nothing; having the clear plastic one off screws up the air flow, and makes all of the fans go really loud.

Right. The metal door is cosmetic. As long as the clear plastic panel is in place, it'll be fine.

It was very thoughtful of Steve to place the clear plastic cover. It allows us to view the awesome inside of the G5 without doing any damage.

and it's always a nice way to impress all your winPC users. (same with my OOOOLD g4 tower)
