recently i have noticed how safari stops in the middle of ANYTHING and then beachballs for about 3 seconds, then go back to whatever it was doing before.

i can click on a text-field to start typing and safari stops, and then beachballs.

i can scroll down on a page and safari stops, and then beachballs.

i can click on a drop-down menu and safari stops, and then beachballs.

i click on a regular top-of-the-screen menu and safari stops, and then beachballs.

this is similar to but not the same as the damn beachball inferno of the finder when attempting something exotic, such as clicking on a menu, say file menu for example.

it's not unbearable, i'ts only for a few seconds, but it irritates the hell out of me.

any clues?
i just installed 10.3.9, can't say if i had the same problem before. only thing i know is that this problem is fairly new.

I noticed the same when the new Safari engine came out as part of 10.3.8 or 10.3.9 (whichever it was) and same thing still happens in 10.4.1. Like a lot of apps, it helps to quit and re-launch occasionally. Very irritating, no question.

It happens quite often when viewing Quicktime media online..
If you watch your network activity you will see that you are still pulling down data, and if you wait 9 times out of 10 it will stop 'beachballing' and start playing the movie once you have cached enough data.. This is even after checking Safari and being told that the app is not responding. But it does not come back every time in my experience.. However, this may be due to a slow network connection and it still not having cached enough movie data to get out of whatever loop it is sitting in.

This quirk has got worse since 10.4 and 10.4.1. Pretty crap really on an OS this powerful!
