I was just wondering approx how long it would take to encode and burn a 43-minute movie to dvd using iDVD. The computer i'm using is a dual 2.5GHz G5 with 512mb RAM. Absolutely nothing else is running in the background and the HD has 56GB of free space.

The reason I ask is because this is the first time I've used iDVD and it's kind of frustrating not having a progress bar.

I just started playing with iDVD as well today on my 1.67 powerbook and a 6 minute dv imovie took about 20mins or so to render, but I was also doing a few other things while it ran in the backround (nothing too intensive though)

There is a progress bar its in the customize drawer under "Status" (iLife '05)

It ended up taking less than an hour! Is it just me or is my mind playing tricks on me? Shouldn't it take two hours or so?? anyways, i'm not complaining. the dvd turned out great.

p.s. I know I would've ended up answering my own question anyways, but I was very impatient at the time and needed something to go by

Lucky bastards with dual G5s On my eMac, encoding a DVD that's just over an hour takes up to 7 or 8 hours. It's probably at least partly due to the fact that I can't use "best performance" because of the length but still.... that's an awfully long time.

If it's not red and showing substantial musculature, you're wearing it wrong.

Crank up your memory to at least 1gig and you will see a huge speed jump. 2gigs is even better.
