The coolest thing is that it's wide open, to anyone. Anybody has an honest shot. And as much as I'd like to be the one, there's part of me who hopes the grand prize goes to some hard-working, talented designer or artist who's lusted after a Mac but has just never been able to afford one. Someone who would genuinely appreciate, and use, it.

That would be really cool.

...but if that poor, unfortunate bastard can't win it for whatever reason, then it may as well be me! The race is on...

And if murbot wins it, I'll throw myself out a window...

That sumbitch has had more than his share already.

BTW, I was informed by LoCash the other day that I'd made the 100,000 post here...so maybe timing and good fortune are on my side?

Better to just throw him out the window, then steal a six pack of Molson as you walk out the door with your new laptop and iPod. Tell you what, I'll go in on the deal, you can have the iPod an 70,000 songs... I'll take the laptop, 30,000 songs and the pack of Molson. I just want enough juice to put some money back in the bank to start a new business and something drink at the motels on the way home.

Oops...it WAS 10,000. Just felt like 100,000 I guess.

Still, a good omen for me.

ha, a pc weenie who uses the pc version of ITMS will probably win and then try and ram a centrino chip into that beautiful PB

i wonder if stevie would let you exchange the 17" for a 12" PB and a 20" new monitor??
that would be sweet

Ohmigosh, I didn't even consider that, g.

Watch some Apple-hating dipshit win the big prize. What a waste.

I woudn't care about any exchange...I'd be thrilled beyond words with a 17" PowerBook (I'd actually hold a raffle here and give away my current 15").

Besides, you could always murbot it on eBay (murBay?) and take the cash to get what you really wanted.

Watch that dude win and try and own the entire catalog. One big ass playlist.

actually, in theory, it would be worth it as it gets close to buy 2,000 songs at once to be the one who hits the mark. of course, now 200 people are going to realize this and that last 20k shoudl go real quick.

Yeah, but wouldn't it suck if you did that, but someone beat you to it by a fraction of a second, and you were stuck with 2,000 songs you didn't want? Not to mention a wallet that is $1980 lighter...

Cool... live updating.

Ok, will try that again at the next 100,000 mark... I wonder if they email you right away if you win...

Edit: Found out...

"Apple will notify winners by e-mail and/or by post at the address provided within approximately three (3) days following selection of each winner."

Hey, what did I say that WASN'T true? You've owned at least two of every product Apple makes.

Look at it this way: you're a verb now. And a cooler thing, I can't imagine. Bask in it, and enjoy it for what it is.

If that ain't love, then you tell me what is.

I wish I could buy an iTMS song up here though, man. I'll have to hop on that email wagon.

The real Apple-hating dipshits won't even use Apple products, period. They won't touch any Apple software, won't even look at iPods, etc, so they won't even be using iTMS in the first place. Believe me, I know a few of these people, as I suspect a number of us here do.

I know Apple-haters who love iTMS, but then when they see a Mac they immediately start spewing stuff about how all Macs suck.

The tiny little javascript document that contains the current number, straight from Apple, is here.

No pretty formatting or anything, just a quick, live number.

Last night I was up at the moment that it hit 95,000,000 I purchased a 39 track album(for $8!, and it's good stuff too!) thinking it would give me a pretty good chance, I also timed my purchased based on the rough per second and per minute estimate I had. But when I went to purchase, I got an error from the music store, I only managed to get about 5 out of 39 songs until after the 95,000,000 mark was breeched, then about 10 more downloaded before I got another error. Now the rest are downloading.

eitherway though, that's pretty lame, I guess maybe the server overloaded or something? because like, in the past 20 minutes, about 100-200 songs were being sold every 5 minutes, but then at the breaking point like 2500 were sold, probably all at around the same time.

seems like there are a lot of people keen on trying to win.

I don't really care, I already have an iPod, but it is still fun to figure out the rate at which songs are being downloaded, and try and make educated guesses of when to buy some songs.

916 songs until someone wins a 20 GB iPod.

EDIT:

DAMN! While I was making that post 2,000 songs were sold.
