What makes you say granite is porous, its an igneous rock. The image might look a little porous but thats because some minerals eroded out of it, in general I'd say granite is quick solid... seems like a perfect use of granite to me...

Just based on my experiences working with it. In researching different types of counter tops for my house one of the biggest complaints was that granite is porous and therefore can stain and hold bacteria relatively well. I'm not sure if that was specific to polished granite or not, but the aforementioned uhhh...objects...appear to be polished.
