Could anyone comment on this snip from ThinkSecret ? What is an "illegal Image" ?
Should an Apple retail employee come across any "illegal images" on a Mac dropped off by a customer to a store, they are obligated to report the violation to Store Operations, which takes matters from there. |

My guess is illegal porn, though then the question has to be asked why the retail people are poking around in your private files, unless of course your desktop is kiddie porn!!??!!
Maybe it actually means a 'disk' image, though how can you tell that an image is pirated? |

Ya know, you could see how well FileVault really works by filling up your home folder with kiddie porn, then dropping your mac off at an Apple Store.

I was poking fun at Apple's policy, not kiddie porn. I think it's just as gross as the next guy.
Regarding the Omega's comment, why would one store a disk image of legal software (I'm thinking stuff like FCP, Photoshop, retail games) on your Mac? ![]() You ask me for a hamburger. Last edited by atomicbartbeans : 2005-08-06 at 09:00. |

Not that I expect them to be poking around, but I didn't hide my 'torrents' folder when I sent my computer in a couple months ago.

I once worked with a kid who had Narcissistic Personality Disorder and we were playing freeze tag in a playground. He got up to the top of the slide, looked down at me, arms outstretched like he was on the cross, and said, "You can't catch The Alex!" It was hilarious. If it's not red and showing substantial musculature, you're wearing it wrong. |

I use legal disk images as well. I have them for starcraft, warcraft, Diablo2 and the first three mysts. I bought all of them, I use images because I don't have to deal with cd noise.

now things like kiddie porn I could understand. However I would hope that someone wouldn't get a morality talk from an Apple store manager because she has porn on her newly purchased iBook or something.
I don't think tech's should be allowed to go poking around, however if they find something somewhere accidently that is indeed illegal content like kiddie porn/nuke plans/ect, then theres every obligation for the tech to report it. This would be interesting to find out, if one had porn on his/her machine and took it into the store for repairs if anything would come of it. That's not illegal, just not widely accepted as "good taste". I do have some porn on this machine (PC), and I'd hate to have to keep it out of iPhoto (when I switch, hopefully soon ) because some repair person might think I'm weird or something should I ever need to take in a Mac for repairs. Surely they don't go snooping through your iPhoto library, thats a violation of privacy IMO. |
