Ok, so i accidently dragged a page out of iTunes to the desktop. Well, I placed the shortcut I accidently created in the trash. Now, everytime i try to empty the trash, it says that the file is in use... How? What do I do? I don't know what applications could still be using the file. I quit iTunes... Help!

If empty trash and secure empty trash don't work and you've removed it from trash, renamed it and put it back and that doesn't work, use Cocktail.

Instead of selecting "Empty Trash" select "Secure Empty Trash" That should get rid of that thing for you.

I fixed the problem. I had sent the file in a file transfer, which I cancelled. I guess Adium was using the file or something. Whatever the problem, all I had to do was quit Adium and restart it and then the trash deleted everything! So we're all good now

For future reference, the "Secure Empty Trash" option will work for in use files, just make sure that file isn't doing something important before you dump it.

What usually works for me when I can't just press the gear thing and "Empty Trash", is closing the trash window, control-clicking or right-clicking on the Trash icon in the Dock, and choosing "Empty Trash". For some reason that deletes when other things fail.

I've never had to go to Terminal, but that's another option.
