Hi
I got a bit confused, when I had contradicting advice from the Apple Store and Best Buy.. I'm setting up a wireless network. The guy I'm moving in with, has a cable modem with one ethernet port, I have an Airport Express. I need to get more ports as he doesn't have wireless in his machine. The Apple store guy told me I could just buy a hub, connect it to the cable modem, and I'd be set. (this was my initial thought as well) However when I went to Best Buy to get the hub, the sales person told me it wouldn't work... something with assigning IP-addresses. I googled the issue but couldn't get a clear answer. With all the knowledgeable people around here, I'm sure one of you can straighten this out ![]() |

You need an ethernet router. Plug the cable modem, AE, and the other guy's computer into it. Shouldn't have to do anything.

Got a router, wireless actually, as it was the cheapest. Setting it up made me appreciate why I pay a little extra for my Apple products.
Setting up the AE (with only my comp) was a breeze. Settting up the D-Link took me literally hours ![]() |
