Not to be rude or anything, but...
If there aren't any spyware, malware, loggers, etc, how do I know it actually works? Isn't this a bit like wearing a life jacket in a boat in the middle of the Gobi desert, just in case you fall overboard? My other brain is hung like a horse too. #IRC isn't old school. Old school is being able to say 'finger me' with a straight face. |

I think the use of 10 exclamation points might have been a little overzealous considering what the software actually does.

I mean, I'm not so naive as to think it's not *possible*, but I'm also not quite so paranoid as to think that I'm going to be the one that first finds an infection on my machine, out of all of Mac-dom.
*shrug* Then again, I'm careful about what I install, let the home server do the packet filtering and alert me if anything unexpected is happening, etc. On a more technical note: what does this tool look for, if there aren't specific packages it *could* be looking for? (Well, there's that one rootkit, but you have to be pretty lazy and/or stupid to get tricked by that one, since you have to be a) running as root, and b) launch it yourself.) I mean, does it just look for 'suspicious behaviour', for some definition of suspicious? I ran LittleSnitch for a while, and finally got so tired of it flagging perfectly normal behaviour that I turned it off - it was more annoying than protective. Just curious. My other brain is hung like a horse too. #IRC isn't old school. Old school is being able to say 'finger me' with a straight face. |

Their forums seem to indicate that no one has found anything yet!
People also mentioned that it scans their computer... why would it do that, it seems the best way to look for trojans would be with port scans and monitoring outbound traffic on ports that shouldn't be there. Also sounds like FUD to me too. I'll give it a shot. |

Also, check their list of Spyware that it finds.
The list is currently empty. Hmmm. |

Hey guys, good news. I've written a program that is just as effective as this.
And the best part is, all you need to do to download it is click here. ![]() I am not saying she is engaged in small-scale mining operations for precious metals, but I have never seen her associate with any gentlemen of African American origin who are suffering financial embarrassment. It doesn't really do anything... I just ran it against my applications folder and it found nothing! It should have found vncserver, which is running... I even had the relevent option checked.

I'm a bit confused as to why anyone would run this. Is this another Intego thing?

If you look inside the package contents there is a .plist file that contains the definitions for 13 pieces of *spyware*...
TakeDown Suite TextTrap SuperSave Peeping Tom Mac Life Insurance Invisible Oasis/Last Resort Keystroke Recorder Type Saver Type Recorder Monitorer Remote Admin Extentsion Spector Keyboard and Mouse Recorder So... I suppose it just searches your hard drive for these thirteen programs, which don't really qualify as malware because someone has to install them purposely. |

The forums are full of sketchy if not generated posts ...
seriously - is this company legit? How long have they been around. It wouldn't surprise me at all if its a malicious program with a bogus website. Can anyone verify that those programs are acatual spyware and not just made up? |

ARD isn't in the list? WTF?
coder: "let's search for programs that record keystrokes/passwords (potentially) as a background process" coder2: "how about the obvious... an admin tool common to many schools... BackOrifice-ish" coder: "nah, let's pick 13 little known ones instead" ![]() Last edited by curiousuburb : 2005-09-14 at 08:53. |

wow... finally. It's been 9 months since they announced that they were working on a new version. I totally forgot about them until now... Used to have a bunch more definitions but it was for OS9 so I guess not relavent anymore.
They've been around for a while now, they kept emptying the forums every month or so because it got flooded with "when is the new version coming" type posts... It used to also be filled with a bunch of people talking about what apps they think is acting as spyware.... Then... it got flooded with ads... Anywho, it's nice to see that they are alive. For 5 months they only had one update on their news section saying "Happy New Year!" |
